Our client in the renewable energy sector is seeking a Project Engineer to join their expanding technical team. This role is ideal for someone who has strong technical experience in solar PV project execution and wants to be involved in full project lifecycle delivery—from design through installation and commissioning.
About the Role
The Project Engineer will be responsible for coordinating technical project requirements, ensuring accurate designs, and supporting the delivery of commercial and industrial (C&I) solar PV projects. You will work closely with Engineering, Procurement, and Project Management teams to ensure projects are delivered on time, within budget, and according to quality and compliance standards.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist in the design, planning, and execution of solar PV and hybrid energy projects.
- Conduct site assessments, system modelling, and feasibility evaluations.
- Prepare technical drawings, SLDs, layout plans, and bill of materials.
- Support procurement by specifying equipment and liaising with suppliers.
- Ensure compliance with SANS, NRS, OHS, and relevant regulatory standards.
- Monitor installation progress and conduct quality inspections during construction phases.
- Assist in commissioning activities, testing, and handover documentation.
- Manage technical project administration including reporting and documentation control.
- Provide technical support to internal teams and external stakeholders.
Requirements
- BTech / BSc / BEng in Electrical Engineering or related field.
- 2 – 5 years’ experience in solar PV projects (C&I or utility-scale exposure).
- Experience using design tools and software such as PVSyst, Helioscope, or AutoCAD.
- Solid understanding of PV design, inverters, mounting structures, and electrical systems.
- Strong technical documentation and reporting skills.
- Valid driver’s licence and willingness to travel to project sites.
