Company Overview
We are a growing solar service company specializing in residential and commercial PV system operations, maintenance, and design. We’re looking for a Solar Proposal Designer who can turn technical field data into accurate, customer-ready proposals. The ideal candidate understands both the technical and practical aspects of solar systems and enjoys translating site details into clear, professional estimates that help clients make confident decisions.
Role Overview
The Solar Proposal Designer is responsible for creating detailed and accurate proposals for solar service work, including system repairs, remove-and-reinstall projects, maintenance services, and post-installation support. This role requires strong technical knowledge of PV systems, exceptional attention to detail, and the ability to interpret real-world site conditions—particularly for the post-installation process or solar systems that require ongoing service after the original installer is no longer active.
Key Responsibilities
- Prepare detailed quotes for the post-installation process (or for customers who already have solar systems installed by another company), including requests for remove-and-reinstalls (R&R), preventative maintenance, corrective maintenance, critter guard installations, and related solar service work.
- Review site photos, technician notes, and service reports to identify modules, inverters, racking systems, and balance-of-system components
- Validate site information such as roof conditions, wiring paths, equipment serial numbers, and existing system layouts prior to finalizing proposals
- Develop proposals for post-installation service scenarios, including systems transitioned from previous providers or requiring corrective rework
- Collaborate closely with service managers, dispatch, and accounting to confirm labor scope, pricing, and timelines
- Use CRM and quoting tools (Zoho CRM, RazorSync, or similar platforms) to manage service tickets, SKUs, and cost structures
- Produce clear, professional, and transparent proposals that outline scope, assumptions, and inclusions for customers
- Cross-check technician labor logs and field documentation to ensure estimates align with real site conditions and cost expectations
RequirementsMust-Have Qualifications
- Strong technical understanding of PV systems, with the ability to identify components and system configurations from photos, diagrams, and field documentation
- Proven experience creating detailed solar service proposals for post-installation (or for customers who already have solar systems installed by another company), including repair, maintenance, and reinstallation work. Candidates whose experience is pre-installation only (or customers who doesn't have solar system installed in their houses yet) need not apply.
- Demonstrated knowledge of post-installation solar service workflows, including proposal creation for existing systems requiring takeover, correction, or long-term servicing
- Solid foundational knowledge of roofing and electrical concepts related to solar installations, such as penetrations, flashing, conduit, and wiring paths
- Proficiency with CRM and quoting platforms such as Zoho CRM, RazorSync, or equivalent systems
- Excellent written communication skills with a professional, customer-facing tone
- High level of accuracy and attention to detail, particularly when reviewing serial numbers, measurements, and assumptions
- Analytical mindset with the ability to convert field data into structured, cost-based proposals
- Reliable and collaborative, able to work effectively across operations, service, and accounting teams
Nice-to-Have Skills
- Experience using AutoCAD, Helioscope, or Aurora for array visualization or spacing validation
- Familiarity with NEC 690/705 requirements and local permitting or AHJ standards
- Background in insurance restoration estimating or Xactimate-style pricing
- Ability to analyze margins, profitability, or performance metrics using Excel or Google Sheets
- Knowledge of common roofing systems (asphalt shingle, TPO, EPDM, metal) and their impact on solar mounting
- Familiarity with major racking and hardware manufacturers such as IronRidge, Unirac, SnapNrack, or EcoFasten
- Exposure to solar service partner ecosystems and third-party ownership platforms
Ideal Candidate
The ideal candidate enjoys the technical side of solar service work and thrives in a structured, detail-focused environment. You are comfortable working with existing systems, interpreting imperfect or legacy documentation, and producing clear, accurate proposals that reflect real-world conditions and support high-quality service delivery.
