Design the Future of Energy with ExecuPOWER
ExecuPOWER is seeking a skilled and detail-driven Substation Designer (Physical) to join our growing team. In this remote role, you'll lead the design of substation physical layouts that power the modern grid while collaborating with engineers, project managers, and clients to deliver exceptional results.
This is more than just a design role-it's an opportunity to grow within a company that's reshaping utility engineering with passion, precision, and purpose.
What You'll Do
- Serve as a primary contributor for substation physical design projects, including equipment layouts, sections, elevations, bus layouts, grounding, conduit plans, lighting, shielding, and bill of materials.
- Collaborate closely with Project Engineers, CAD teams, and Management to ensure technical deliverables are accurate, timely, and exceed client expectations.
- Engage directly with key clients to learn their standards, build strong relationships, and develop into a trusted technical resource.
- Perform design work using AutoCAD and/or MicroStation, including both vector and raster file types.
- Lead or mentor junior designers and drafters to support quality and career development.
- Support the design process with field-related calculations such as conduit fill, illumination studies, lightning protection, and rigid bus.
- Coordinate cross-discipline requirements, particularly with civil and electrical teams, to ensure a constructible and compliant design.
- Regularly update internal teams on project progress and proactively manage schedules.
- Partner with ExecuPOWER's Construction Management team to evaluate constructability throughout the design phase.
- Participate in site visits as needed to better understand real-world conditions and support clients.
What You Bring to the Table
- Associate degree in Engineering Technology, Drafting & Design, or a related field (experience may be considered in lieu of degree).
- Minimum of 7 years of total experience, with at least 5 years focused on substation physical design in the electric utility industry.
- Proficiency with AutoCAD and/or Bentley MicroStation; ability to work with raster and vector drawings.
- Strong understanding of utility design standards and National Electrical Safety Code (NESC) requirements.
- Familiarity with Microsoft Office Suite (Outlook, Word, Excel); Photoshop is a plus but not required.
- Excellent attention to detail and a proactive, client-focused attitude.
- Willingness to travel occasionally to client sites as needed.
