In this position...
- The Environmental Quality Office (EQO) Global Technical Services and Policy group provides technical and regulatory expertise to ensure compliance with all regulatory requirements and achieve Ford’s Sustainability objectives at our plants and facilities globally.
- We are seeking an experienced engineer/scientist to provide technical and regulatory subject matter expertise to Ford’s global plants and facilities. This individual must possess skills and experience related to manufacturing plant air abatement equipment, air emissions, carbon neutrality, energy usage, air modeling, and odor modeling, with a preference for experience in paint shop and manufacturing CO2 emissions.
- As a team player, they will collaborate globally with environmental suppliers, regulatory agencies, facility and corporate personnel.
ResponsibilitiesWhat you'll do...
- Carbon Neutrality Technology Lead (including Green Abatement) – Investigate, Develop, Pilot, and Assess Feasibility of technology applications to support Ford Motor Company’s published global carbon neutrality goals. Consider all possible means and methods of reducing CO2 emissions from Ford manufacturing operations, including technologies to eliminate emissions from those sources and/or end-of-pipe technologies to capture released carbon.
- Champion implementation of carbon neutrality and green abatement technologies at scale globally working with regional Ford environmental personnel, manufacturing engineering organizations and Ford Land personnel.
- Liaise with Ford Research on investigation and piloting of new environmental technologies to advance compliance and Ford manufacturing environmental strategies. Support and guide existing university research related to abatement equipment and carbon neutrality technologies.
- Air Abatement SME (e.g., Paint, Machining, Battery, and Mining) – Provide air abatement equipment environmental compliance and sustainability support to Ford manufacturing and environmental personnel; including training, management of standard critical to environment abatement tasks, carbon/zeolite block evaluation, digital tools for abatement critical to environment parameters, and abatement downtime evaluation.
- Support stationary source Air Emission Testing and Air Toxics Modeling as needed, working closely with Contractors and Paint Area and Plant Environmental personnel to ensure regulatory timing and permit requirements are met.
- Provide global technical support for New Business / Programs for Carbon Neutrality Technologies, and environmental regulatory requirements for Air Abatement Equipment.
- Calculate and communicate performance results to Ford and Regulatory Agency personnel in a variety of forums including phone calls, video conferences, regular meetings, written reports, and formal presentations.
- Represent Ford’s interests related to air abatement and carbon neutrality technologies through interaction with external entities (local, regional, and national regulatory agencies, community groups, trade and professional organizations, non-governmental organizations, etc.) and communicate requirements to internal/external stakeholders.
- Identify and evaluate sustainable and innovative technical analytical solutions to advance Environment & Safety Compliance’s and Manufacturing’s business plan objectives and targets (compliance and emissions).
- Utilize internal Ford systems such as the Environmental Operating System, ISO14001, Ford Production System, plant audits, etc. and software applications (e.g., GEM, MATS, PERS, i-Point, ICSM, Maximo, SharePoint, etc.) to help achieve business plan objectives and targets.
- Build strong, productive working relationships and influence outcomes with global environmental professionals and manufacturing /non-manufacturing / research contacts.
- Use standard procedures and best practices to ensure facility / manufacturing environmental compliance to achieve business plan objectives and targets.
- Maintain deep expertise and the ability to build capability within others to benefit the broader organization via mentoring and training, actively leveraging your experience to lead cross-functional teams to address complex technical issues. Maintain air abatement training materials and provide training as necessary to build capability within Ford.
QualificationsYou'll have...
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in Engineering or Science (Mechanical, Electrical, Chemical, Civil, or Environmental preferred)
- At least 5 years of relevant work experience in project management and air emissions and abatement technologies
- Deep expertise of energy usage, air abatement equipment operations, paint booth management, and air emissions
- Comfortable working in an environment where problems are not always well-defined
- Effective communicator, inquisitive, proactive, and interested in learning new tools, technologies, techniques, and digital tools/AI
- Must have experience working in computer database applications. Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and SharePoint applications is required
- Willingness to conduct meetings during other region’s normal working hours per the requirements of Ford’s global meeting policy.

- Proficiency reading, speaking, and professional writing skills in English
- Strong oral, written and interpersonal communication skills

- Strong time management skills with ability to prioritize efforts, work independently, and progress multiple initiatives concurrently
- Ability to work globally within Ford and with environmental regulators
- Willingness to travel to company facilities globally as necessary.
