They are currently seeking an experienced Principal Environmental Consultant to be part of our environmental team in Cork. The successful candidate will join our dynamic team, leading challenging and exciting projects spanning various sectors. The Environmental Team includes a diverse group including environmental consultants, geologists, hydrogeologists, environmental scientists and energy engineers. This role is ideal for someone passionate about environmental issues who excels at organisation and enjoys fostering a productive and positive work environment.
The Consultant will be instrumental in ensuring project success by utilising their extensive experience to guide our multidisciplinary team. Ideal candidates will demonstrate exceptional leadership abilities, a high level of motivation, and a talent for thriving in team-oriented settings. Success in this role requires a strong combination of technical expertise and project management proficiency, along with outstanding communication and writing skills to effectively oversee a range of complex projects.
The role is available as a hybrid role, if required. However, regular visits and attendance at our Cork office to foster a collegial environment is an essential requirement for the role.
Main Duties and Responsibilities
As a Principal, you will play a pivotal role in our team, providing expertise in environmental impact assessments, planning, auditing, compliance, and licensing. The successful candidate will be responsible for:

Lead and oversee the coordination of wide array of Environmental Consultancy projects, including Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) Reports, Environmental Monitoring, AA reports, Contaminated Land Assessment and more.

Technical report writing.

Provide mentorship and direction to our Cork team members and subconsultants

Manage office communication channels, ensuring that clients receive timely responses and accurate information. Undertake business development activities and prepare tender documents.

Manage complex projects and programmes.

Assist with billing and expense tracking to maintain accurate financial records.
Essential Requirements:

Minimum of 8 years’ experience working in the environmental sector

Membership/Chartered Status with a relevant professional body/institute.

Minimum BSc or BA (Hons) degree in environmental science or related discipline.

Exceptional organisational skills, self-motivation, and the ability to lead initiatives.

Have a good working knowledge and experience of implementing relevant EU and Irish legislation relating to environmental compliance and management of contaminated land

High attention to detail, excellent report writing, and communication skills.

Excellent problem-solving skills with the ability to synthesise complex, multifaceted data into clear and concise insights.

Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to work both independently and as part of a team.

Excellent proficiency in Microsoft Office suite.

Key Responsibilities:
Lead and manage environmental consultancy projects, ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements and industry standards.

Provide expert advice on environmental planning matters, collaborating with clients and stakeholders to develop sustainable solutions.

Conduct audits to assess compliance with regulatory standards and identify areas for improvement.

Prepare and review environmental consultancy reports, including Environmental Impact Statements (EIS) and Environmental Impact Assessments (EIA) amongst others.

Liaise with regulatory authorities and agencies to obtain necessary permits and licenses for project development.

Mentor and support junior staff members, providing guidance on environmental regulations and best practices.

Stay abreast of developments in environmental legislation and industry trends, incorporating new knowledge into project strategies.

Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams, including hydrogeologists, geologists, ecologists and environmental consultants.

Represent the company at client meetings, public consultations, and regulatory hearings, presenting environmental findings and recommendations.

Contribute to business development activities, including proposal writing, client presentations, and networking events.
