ROLE OF THE SUSTAINABILITY COMMUNICATOR
The role is to capture the vibes at the HI hostels that represent the sustainability within their operations.
Capturing guest eco & social experiences at the hostels; creating diverse digital content; photos, stories, short interviews etc. ready to share on HI Iceland social network and other platforms. Capturing hostel staff working on implementing different eco-initiatives in their daily work; creating photos, stories and interviews, for internal awareness and for sharing within Hostelling International worldwide and social network and other platforms. Capturing guests and locals participating in a green and conscious way of life at the hostels; where, eco-activities, DIY workshops, markets, documentary nights are running. Capturing hostel cultural events; where the young local artists that get the opportunity to perform within the hostels; concerts, etc. Supporting an online community around the social atmosphere and character at the hostels. Recording interviews etc.
ROLE of the SUSTAINABILITY AMBASSADOR
Using different methods to share the eco-initiatives, sustainable practices and community involvement done at the hostels; to get the word out about solutions; to inspire and educate.
Informing and organizing educational activities on topics of importance as recycling, efficient use of energy and its conservation, biological/organic agriculture, the importance of nutritional equilibrium to health, fair and socially responsible trade, and traveling/tourism.
Bringing to guests, staff, and interested individuals alike, activities and events related to the environment, nature protection, responsible tourism, culture values, and sustainable development. Apart from raising awareness, sharing of knowledge, and teaching easy-to-put-in-practice skills on issues, stimulate the inter-and cross-cultural side of life in the hostel.

ACCOMMODATION, FOOD AND TRANSPORT ARRANGEMENTS
The volunteers share an apartment in the Great-Reykjavík area. Their room can be a private room but the participants should expect to share a room with another person same gender. Shared facilities (kitchen, bathroom, laundry, etc) with the others.
The volunteers will be given a bus card for public transportation.
Half board during working days (breakfasts and lunches) will be provided/prepared by/at the Reykjavík HI Hostel, while dinner will be prepared by the volunteers themselves, provided by an extra monthly allowance from HI Iceland.
TRAINING DURING THE ACTIVITY
Developing skills in communicating in a foreign language. Get to know environmental practical work applied in the hospitality sector, which is special since it deals with people moving constantly and brings certain issues regarding the modern consuming world. They will get an insight into life at the hostels, and explore issues related to the environment and responsible tourism. They will develop abilities and a sense of initiative and entrepreneurship. The volunteers will learn to actively engage in conversations and spread values, and sustainability messages.
PARTICIPANT PROFILE
Strong motivation and dedication for working inside an international group on mostly environmental and responsible tourism educational and practical activities. Enthusiasm, creativity, and interest in order to engage with people, working in a team but also being willing to accept personal responsibilities are highly appreciated. A readiness to work with flexibility in changing or developing situations is essential, as well as an ability to occasionally work in high-pressure situations. Particular interest in environmental issues, sustainability, culture, and responsible travelling.
