Sustainability at The Beck Group:
Beck's sustainability team offers a full suite of consulting services. Our highly skilled team has established itself as a LEED Proven Provider. Through an integrated holistic approach, we provide energy efficiency analysis, Life Cycle Cost Assessment (LCCA), solar studies and financial incentives for building efficiency. As a signatory of the AIA 2030 Commitment, we report our project's annual Energy Use Intensity (EUI) and our firm's emissions through the Carbon Disclosure Project (CDP).
What you bring to the table
Beck is looking for a talented Sustainability Intern to join an extraordinary team at our Dallas Headquarters. This is an entry-level position in the Architectural career path for current students interested in Sustainability. Under general supervision, this candidate will work within the Sustainability team to achieve the highest level of building performance. The ideal candidate will have strong critical thinking and analytical skills and will be flexible in a fast-paced environment.
The job involves the following essential functions:
- Assist in creation of high-quality documentation for third party certifications, including performing calculations, drawing annotations, and drafting narratives.
- Attend meetings with the Sustainability team, design team, and construction team to better understand sustainable building strategies through all phases of the project.
- Help prepare meeting minutes and presentation materials to communicate goals and strategies in a clear manner.
- Learn time management skills that are required to draw connections between detail-oriented tasks and the bigger picture.
- Assist with tracking of Beck's National Sustainability Objective.
- Participate in our Intern Design Competition.
- Enjoy working in a team environment.
Who we think will be a great fit
A person with an interest in sustainable building technologies and rating systems, a passion for getting things done, a positive attitude, and possess uncompromising authenticity and integrity. An individual with an interest in the integrated project delivery method and an interest in being innovative in process improvement and technology will be an ideal candidate for this position.
You will also meet the following requirements:
- High school or College/University student.
- Students in their fourth or fifth year of College/University preferred.
- Interest in standards, codes, and rating systems (LEED, WELL, Fitwel, etc.) associated with sustainability and energy performance.
- Microsoft Office, Revit, SketchUp and Bluebeam Revu experience preferred.
Physical Demands:
Frequently required to sit, stand, and move about the office; frequently operates a computer and other office productivity equipment; may lift and move up to ten pounds; constantly communicates with project teams, Beck employees, and external vendors; ability to adhere to timely and consistent attendance.
