Environmental, Health, and Safety (EHS) Specialist
Job Summary:
At Compliance Management International (CMI), we are committed to ensuring the highest safety standards at a global manufacturing facility. The EHS Specialist is responsible for implementing and maintaining a comprehensive Environmental, Health, and Safety (EHS) program at a global manufacturing client site. This position ensures compliance with federal regulations (e.g., OSHA 1910), industry-specific standards, and company policies. The EHS Specialist plays a crucial role in promoting a safe work environment, conducting inspections, delivering training, and supporting operational and safety objectives.
Responsibilities
- Demonstrate expertise in chemical and manufacturing safety, including lockout/tagout, machine safety, chemical safety, hazardous waste, emergency management, and PPE.
- Conduct daily and weekly workplace safety inspections, preparing detailed reports on findings.
- Assist in formatting, editing, and converting Global Laboratory Safety Work Instructions/Standard Operating Procedures into an FDA-validated document management system
- Perform ongoing workplace and equipment inspections to ensure compliance with EHS regulatory and internal requirements.
- Complete EHS-related gap assessments of policies and procedures as needed.
- Deliver safety orientation sessions and develop mentorship/coaching programs to promote safe work practices.
- Review and manage Safety Data Sheets (SDS) for chemicals brought onsite.
- Develop and update job hazard assessments to identify and mitigate risks.
- Inspect hazardous materials and waste storage areas and sign off on waste manifests.
- Implement and monitor compliance with the client’s specific work standards.
- Support safety awareness campaigns and wellness initiatives.
- Report directly to the client's Business Unit Operations and EHS Manager.
Qualifications
- A university degree is required. A bachelor's degree in Biology, Chemistry, Environmental Sciences, or Occupational Health/Safety is preferred.
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in an EHS-oriented field, preferably in a manufacturing setting.
Technical Skills
- Proficiency in MS Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
- Current NYS RCRA Hazardous Waste Training is preferred.
- Current USDOT Dangerous Goods Training is preferred.
Physical Requirements & Work Conditions
- Ability to perform job site inspections, which may involve walking, climbing, and standing for extended periods.
- Ability to lift up to 25 pounds occasionally.
- Must be able to work onsite at a global manufacturing facility five or more days a week.
Other Requirements
- Must pass a background check and potential drug screening.
- Flexibility for overtime and varied work hours based on project demands.
- Residence within a reasonable commuting distance (no relocation, travel, or per diem provided).
