New York University Abu Dhabi (NYUAD) seeks to appoint a Environmental Health and Safety Specialist, Fire Safety reporting to the Director, Environmental Health and Safety.
The Environmental Health and Safety Specialist, Fire Safety will develop, implement and maintain NYUAD’s fire and life safety program. The Specialist serves as the fire and life safety subject matter expert and must ensure that the university is compliant with local fire and life safety laws, regulations and codes of practice. This involves conducting fire emergency planning, safety inspections, risk assessments, training of employees and students, auditing the inspection, maintenance and testing of fire and life safety systems, planning and conducting fire and emergency drills, the investigation of fire situations to ensure non-reoccurrence and recommend standards and policies to reduce vulnerability to fires.
Key Responsibilities:
- Conduct, record and follow-up on fire risk assessments, audits, inspections and investigations
- Develop, implement and maintain NYUAD’s fire and life safety program. Work closely with faculty, staff and service providers to ensure the program remains current and is implemented. Manage the fire warden and first aid program
- Review permits to work, fire impairment, management of change, construction plans and other adhoc requests and provide fire and life safety recommendations and approval when necessary
- Develop and conduct fire and life safety training, fire drills and other EHS related drill
- Develop and maintain positive relationships with Abu Dhabi Civil Defense and other regulatory agencies
- All other duties as assigned by the director
