The Impact You’ll Make in this Role
As Maintenance Technician, you are responsible for manual labor tasks in various job duties such as cleaning, assembling, and disassembling temporary structures. Typically, you will be under the direct supervision of a Craftsperson or Manager. Still many routine and repetitive tasks shall be completed without difficulty and under general supervision.
As an Events Maintenance Technician, you will have the opportunity to tap into your curiosity and collaborate with some of the most innovative and diverse people in San Antonio. Here, you will make an impact by:
- Installing and maintaining Christmas lights and elements, including but not limited to hanging, zip tying, crimping, and running wires.
- Performing inspections of all scenic elements, lighting systems, and effects
- Pick and pack material in an organized and logical manner in preparation for staging/for final delivery.
- Maintain accuracy of material inventory and locations, performing cycle counts as needed.
- Setting up and taking down lighting and equipment for multiple events.
- All staff and must be available days, nights, weekends, and occasional special after-hour Events.
- Safely operates Zoo vehicles, including a flatbed truck, trailers, forklifts, and personal lift equipment. (Forklift/ Boom lift certification is preferred not required)
- Comfortable working at heights on roofs and lift equipment.
- Performing daily operational duties to assist the department including new building and repairs, load-ins and load-outs, system maintenance, and other projects as assigned
- Moving tools, equipment, or other material as directed in plans or by Lead Craftsperson/Manager.
- Assist various Lead/Craftsperson with assigned projects.
- Adhere to all policies set forth by San Antonio Zoo.
- Consistently exhibit an attitude of service inside and outside the zoo, showing hospitality to all.
- Be fully committed to the mission of San Antonio Zoo to create awareness that inspires action to care for the wild world we steward and the animals we protect.
Other Responsibilities:
- Performs other work-related duties as required and assigned.
Your Skills and Expertise
To set you up for success in this role from day one, the San Antonio Zoo recommends the following skills/qualifications:
- Have the ability to understand, foresee, and apply necessary safety precautions to the Zoo environment.
- Knowledge of the use of hand & power tools and equipment is required.
- Attentive to detail and alert at all times to ensure safety
- Must be able to work in varying climate and weather conditions (rain, snow, hot, or cold).
- We enjoy year-round operation for all staff, must be available day, nights, weekends, and occasional special after-hour events
- Able to receive and follow instructions and communicate with co-workers
- Must be 18 years of age or older with valid Texas driver's license or obtain within three months of employment.
- Successful candidates must complete a pre-employment National Sex Offender Search, Criminal Background Check, and Drug Screen.
- We enjoy year-round operation for all staff and must be available days, nights, weekends, and occasional special after-hour assignments.
