Position Description: The Director of Culinary Instruction to leads LMM’s culinary education program while supporting LMM’s residential dining services and social enterprises. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in culinary arts, experience in and passion for teaching and a proven track record of program development. This role requires an individual who can inspire and guide our students while ensuring the highest standards of culinary education.

Responsibilities:
- Oversee the development and implementation of culinary arts curriculum and instructional program.
- Lead, mentor and encourage growth in other culinary staff, providing guidance and support to ensure effective teaching practices among the entire kitchen team.
- Develop and maintain relationships with industry professionals, organizations, and alumni to enhance program offerings and opportunities for students.
- Ensure compliance with accreditation standards and maintain records required for program accreditation.
- Recruit and retain students, promoting the culinary program to prospective students.
- Organize and coordinate culinary events, workshops, and demonstrations to enrich the student experience.
- Manage the department budget, including purchasing equipment and supplies, and ensuring cost-effective use of resources.
- Stay current with industry trends and advancements in culinary arts to continuously improve the program.
- Assess and evaluate student performance, providing feedback and support to foster their growth and development.
- Foster a positive and inclusive learning environment that encourages creativity and innovation.
- Incorporate nutritional education into the curriculum, emphasizing the importance of balanced and healthy eating.
- Collaborate with nutrition experts to design and implement programs that promote good nutrition and wellness.
- Evaluate and revise recipes and menus to ensure they meet nutritional guidelines and standards
- Engage and maintain volunteers, providing training, support and recognition for their contributions to the culinary program.
Organizational Relationships:
- Works independently and collaboratively with other team members.
- Represents LMM to vendors and outside agencies in the course of daily work.
- Reports directly to the Chief Infrastructure Officer.
Qualifications:
- Agreement with the Lighthouse Mission’s Statement of Faith and adhere to the Life & Personal Covenant, as outlined in the Employee Handbook
- A passion for serving Jesus and making the Gospel known through mercy ministry. The successful candidate will have an active church/prayer life.
- Bachelor's degree in Culinary Arts, Hospitality Management, or a related field. (Relevant experience considered).
- Minimum of 5 years of experience supervising in kitchens, with at least 2 years in a teaching or instructional role.
- Strong leadership and management skills, with the ability to motivate and inspire a team.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build relationships with students, faculty, and industry professionals.
- Proven experience in curriculum development and program management.
- Knowledge of accreditation standards and requirements for culinary programs.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and manage multiple priorities.
- Proficiency in using culinary equipment and technology.
- Expertise in the use of computers including the Google and Microsoft Suites
- Advanced problem solving skills, knowledge of best practices and research techniques
- Possess independent judgment skills and the ability to take initiative
- Ability to interact effectively as a team member and to work independently
- Effective interpersonal communication skills--both written and verbal
- Ability to report as regularly scheduled to the work site
- Execution of a confidentiality agreement
- Ability to successfully pass pre-employment background screenings.
Physical Demands and Environmental Conditions:
- Standing 50%; walking 20%; sitting 30%
- Heavy lifting (Up to 50 lbs.)
- Ability to operate pallet moving equipment (forklift)
