Course Description:
Introduction to the construction of scientific and technological knowledge. Critical study of the curricula and instructional materials used in the classroom. Analysis of issues related to the environment. Selection and study of appropriate teaching strategies for science and technology at the elementary level, while supporting students and valuing their linguistic, cultural diversity and specific needs. Integration of Indigenous perspectives into the teaching of science, technology, and the environment. Development of teaching interventions and learning activities incorporating educational technologies.

Requirements:

A Master's degree in education with a focus on social sciences and humanities is required; preference will be given to a Ph.D. in education focusing on social sciences and humanities. At least one of the following: Recent full-time teaching experience in a school or administrative position within a school board, including two years of implementing the Ontario curriculum at the elementary/intermediate level, with a specialist qualification at the elementary/intermediate level OR Current, peer-reviewed research in the subject to be taught, OR Recent comprehensive exam (Ph.D.) in the subject to be taught. Demonstrated knowledge of the Ontario context regarding the subject to be taught. Proven ability to apply the Professional Standards and the Code of Ethics of the Ontario College of Teachers. The University may consider experience or qualifications equivalent to those listed above.
