JOB SUMMARY
The Director of Human Resources plays a pivotal role in fostering an engaging, transparent, and inclusive workplace culture that aligns with our mission and people development strategy. Reporting to the Vice President of People & Culture, this position is instrumental in creating impactful employee programs, managing communication touchpoints, and maximizing talent management initiatives. The Director will ensure compliance with legal standards and will refine processes and procedures to better serve the needs of employees and the organization. This position will pursue opportunities to strengthen capabilities by implementing best practices and innovative solutions to aid in change management. By managing crucial aspects of employee relations, staff development, and engagement, the Director of Human Resources will contribute significantly to creating a supportive and positive work environment that encourages growth, satisfaction, and retention.
SPECIFIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
•Ensure all human resources practices follow applicable local, state, and federal labor laws and employment guidelines.
•Evaluate and streamline key department functions to improve efficiency, service levels, and the overall employee experience.
•Track and report employee engagement, turnover, and retention metrics to enable data-driven decisions and workplace improvements.
•Utilize surveys, exit interviews, focus groups, and other feedback mechanisms to deliver timely insights to leadership teams.
•Oversee all matters related to employee relations and investigations and implement measures and solutions that minimize risks.
•Support staff in managing performance concerns and provide methods for addressing challenging behaviors or situations.
•Establish channels for open communication to encourage feedback and minimize barriers.
•Develop and implement paths for sharing information across the organization that are accessible to all employees.
•Ensure effective use of available HRIS technology to maximize access and awareness of available employee benefits.
•Drive initiatives to improve employee engagement and morale, ensuring employees feel supported with targeted approaches for addressing work-life balance, employee well-being, and career growth.
•Develop programs that focus on raising awareness to maintain a safe, professional, and inclusive work environment.
•Partner with department managers in assessing and identifying resources to support continuous professional growth through workshops, seminars, virtual learning, in-house training, and online courses.
•Deliver presentations and facilitate training to audiences of all levels, including participation at board meetings, public events, and industry conferences.
•Lead and participate in committees, task groups, and other initiatives that broadly impact people and culture.
•Oversee and provide ongoing coaching, mentorship, and professional development opportunities to all direct reports.
•Assist in the design and execution of strategic initiatives for policy development, recruitment, benefit administration, compensation, and community engagement.
QUALIFICATIONS
•A Bachelor’s Degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or a related field is preferred.
•Must have at least 5-7 years of experience in Human Resources, Employee Relations, or Talent Management in a comparable environment, preferably at an accredited zoological park, amusement park, or other tourism and hospitality-focused operation.
•Must have 3-5 years of experience in a mid-to-senior level leadership role in a relevant area of Human Resources.
•Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to collaborate effectively, build positive relationships, and work harmoniously with individuals at all levels.
•Ability to effectively delegate and maintain accountability and ownership for desired results and outcomes.
•Proficient in administering HRIS, HRM, Payroll, ATS, LMS, and Talent Management platforms.
•Must be agile and able to multi-task, adapt, and shift priorities as necessary.
•Must be solution-oriented with an affinity towards leveraging technology to meet operational needs.
•Must be organized and driven to meet project deadlines.
•Must be a strategic thinker with a proven ability to drive meaningful change.
•Ability to work flexible shifts, including weekends and evenings, when required.
•Ability to work indoors and outdoors with exposure to cold and heat.
•Ability to collaborate, work as a team, and independently.
•Must have excellent communication and presentation skills, both oral and written.
•Must have a valid driver’s license.
