Reporting to the Superintendent, Environment, you will be part of the Environment Department. You will be responsible for overseeing all environmental aspects of the underground mining operation, ensuring compliance with regulations, monitoring environmental impacts, implementing mitigation strategies, and promoting a culture of environmental stewardship within the mine site, while directly supervising environmental technicians and coordinating with other departments to maintain a safe and environmentally responsible mining process. You will ensure that the goals and objectives are achieved while promoting and respecting Agnico Eagle’s values, Health & Safety Code of Conduct and the environment.
- Regularly collect and analyze environmental samples (air, water, soil) to monitor for potential contaminants and compliance with permits;
- Conduct environmental audits and inspections of mining operations to identify potential environmental risks. Main contact/lead for the UG site for RMMS follow up and audit;
- Maintain detailed environmental monitoring records and reports;
- Support the permitting and the community relation teams for any request regarding the UG;
- Ensure adherence to all applicable environmental regulations, permits, and company environmental policies;
- Review and update environmental management plans to reflect changing regulations and operational needs;
- Coordinate with regulatory agencies regarding environmental reporting and compliance issues;
- Develop and implement environmental mitigation plans to address potential impacts from mining activities, including water management, dust control, and waste disposal;
- Lead and supervise a team of environmental technicians, assigning tasks and ensuring proper training on environmental monitoring protocols and safety procedures;
- Provide technical guidance and support to field crews regarding environmental best practices;
- Work closely with mine operations personnel to integrate environmental considerations into mining plans and activities;
- Communicate environmental data and concerns to mine management and stakeholders;
- Collaborate with engineering teams to design and implement environmental control systems.

The Detour UG project is an advanced underground exploration project based out of Detour mine project located in Northern Ontario.
- Bachelor's degree in environmental science/engineering, geology, or a related field;
- Strong understanding of environmental regulations and permitting processes relevant to underground mining;
- Experience with environmental monitoring techniques and data analysis;
- Knowledge of underground mining operations and safety procedures;
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to effectively collaborate with cross-functional teams;
- Leadership abilities to manage a team of environmental technicians;
- Proficiency in environmental data management software;
- Excellent working knowledge of all Microsoft Office Suite applications especially Outlook, Excel, Word & PowerPoint.
Your Work Schedule:
- Schedule\: 4 days of work at our Detour Lake mine site, followed by 3 days off;
- Accommodations and meals are provided on site at no cost to the employee. Agnico Eagle provides transportation to and from the mine site and will accommodate to cover other travelling expenses according to your location of residence in Canada.
