Jacksonville Zoo and Gardens is seeking a Facility Maintenance Technician to join our team of experts dedicated to keeping our zoo running smoothly. For over a century our Zoo has been a leader in wildlife conservation and education, spanning over 100+ acres on the Northside of Jacksonville. Our technicians play a crucial role in maintaining the integrity and functionality of our facilities. From preventative maintenance to emergency repair you'll be at the heart of maintaining systems that keep our zoo safe, efficient, and welcoming to visitors and animals alike.

What You’ll Do:
- Perform hands-on repairs and installations of plumbing systems, as well as support work on HVAC, electrical, mechanical, safety, and waste management systems.
- Address a wide range of plumbing needs, including emergency repairs, sewer line maintenance, drain repairs, and water system improvements.
- Work proactively on general maintenance tasks with a focus on plumbing and drainage systems to ensure the reliability of essential infrastructure.
- Be a vital part of maintaining the zoo's core infrastructure, ensuring the highest standards of service, quality, and safety.
- Tackle exciting projects such as refurbishing splash pads, upgrading animal habitats like the Lorikeet building, and supporting ongoing facility improvements.
- Work both indoors and outdoors, 363 days a year, surrounded by wildlife and lush gardens.
What We’re Looking For:
- A combination of one (1) year of experience or education in general repairs, with a strong focus on plumbing and drainage systems.
- Knowledge of plumbing systems, including emergency repairs, sewer line repair, drain repair, and more.
- Ability to work a schedule that includes a Saturday or Sunday.
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Valid Florida Driver’s License with a clear driving record.
- Knowledge and expertise in plumbing systems, including emergency repairs, sewer line repair, and drain maintenance.
- A proactive, hands-on approach to troubleshooting and repairs in a dynamic, fast-paced environment.
- Proficient in reading measurements, interpreting plans, and performing basic math calculations.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
- Ability to operate motorized cart, large equipment/ trucks, hand, and power tools.
- Ability to work outdoors and indoors under all environmental conditions and temperatures.
- Ability to transport and move items up to 50 pounds frequently for short distances.
- Ability to ascend/ descend ladders, steps, and uneven terrain, while maintaining body equilibrium while performing various jobs.
- Ability to consistently remain on feet for prolonged periods of time.
- Exceptional visual acuity required, along with the ability to communicate, comprehend and decipher information accurately, using a two-way radio.
- Manual dexterity for standing, reaching, flexibility, and body movement for bending, crouching, walking, kneeling, stoop, bend, lift, kneel, crawl, climb, jump, dig and prolonged standing.
- Grasp, turn, and manipulate objects of varying size and weight, requiring fine motor skills and hand-eye coordination.
- Ability to access and navigate each department at the organization on foot and/or by a motorized cart.
- Visual and auditory acuity appropriate plant care for safety and to discern differences in documents/labels.
