Payroll Specialist

ScottishPower are hiring a Payroll Specialist to join our People & Organisation Shared Services team.
Reporting to the Payroll Manager you’ll provide effective, efficient, and professional Payroll service throughout the full employee lifecycle via various contract channels to all employees across the ScottishPower (SP) UK business.
You’ll manage the simulation and subsequent processing of the payroll to include validating and processing salary payments and deductions including pensions for SP payroll meeting all statutory and business requirements and timescales.
This includes the verification, reconciliation and input of non-statutory and statutory deductions and all HMRC legislative requirements. All these activities require to be carried out within appropriate control, compliance safety and legislative requirements.
You’ll work to ensure that payroll governance and approvals are adhered too and act as an expert in payroll process and ensure all processes and transactions are completed in an accurate and timely manner in line with agreed SLA’s/KPI’s.
As a contributing team member, you’ll take responsibility for specific payroll processing on a rotational basis with the ability to run a complete payroll ensuring all reports and reconciliations including pay, tax, NIC and deductions are completed. This includes reconciliation, BACS returns, 3rd party payments, HMRC/RTI Reporting are completed within strict payroll deadlines.
Additionally, you’ll be responsible for;
- Inputting P45, New starter forms and P6 changes to records in Oracle HR and Payroll system,
- Validate SSP, OSP, SMP, OMP and process input as required to ensure accuracy of payments to employees whilst ensuring statutory and business control requirements,
- Own and resolve queries from employees relating to payroll whilst maintaining good standards of customers service,
- Provide accurate information to solicitors, pension providers and administrators as required whilst not compromising data protection responsibilities and other statutory or business requirements,
- Project support on Legislative updates and system patches from HMRC, working alongside the systems team to deliver updates including testing and verification,
- Support the delivery of projects to improve payroll system, processes, and procedures and continually strive to improve the quality of service provided.
It is essential for candidates to have a minimum of 3 years’ experience in a Payroll environment and be an experienced user of Oracle Payroll module with strong PC skills such as advanced working knowledge of Excel and working knowledge of all other aspects of the MS Office suite.
We are looking for candidates with experienced skills and working knowledge of:
- Expert knowledge of PAYE calculation, documentation and returns required,
- Expert knowledge of National Insurance calculations, documentation and returns required,
- Expert knowledge of SSP, OSP, SMP, OMP regulations, documentation and returns required,
- Expert knowledge of BIK and P11D documentation and returns required,
- Working knowledge of the legal aspects of payroll.
You’ll be an excellent communicator with effective influencing skills who can liaise with internal and external stakeholders professionally and effectively. You’ll have strong time management and organisational skills including the ability to prioritise and work to tight deadlines.
You’ll be a team player with a can-do attitude and a detailed and quality orientated individual who can analyse and report on data for your customers and business alike.
