Senior Project Manager – Onshore Wind Development Team
The Senior Project Manager will be responsible for managing and controlling a portfolio of wind and hybridised development stage energy projects in the ScottishPower Renewables UK and Ireland pipeline, to ensure delivery of agreed milestones.
This role manages project teams and encompasses all aspects of developing sites from origination through to project development, enabling viable projects with the required consents and agreements to progress to the SPR Project Delivery Team for construction.
Responsibilities
Leading and delivering projects as directed by the Head of Onshore Wind Development to ensure delivery of the ScottishPower Renewables business objectives, you will lead a high-performing team of Project Managers and Assistant Project Managers.
Developing projects to secure consents, overseeing land agreements and grid connection agreements to ensure they have a viable route to market and are optimised to maximise commercial returns to ScottishPower Renewables, you will propose, lead and deliver appropriate project and commercial delivery strategies to the Head of Onshore Wind Development and Managing Director UK Onshore Origination and Development.
Responsible for clear financial management including budgeting, forecasting, invoicing and cost control over multiple projects on a multi-year basis, you will obtain budget and business approvals in compliance with all appropriate governance procedures, ensuring project budget controls are effectively managed.
Modelling project finances and updating any relevant changes to maximise project value and minimise investment risk, you will lead and ensure all key decisions are supported by sufficient due diligence and investigation.
Planning and managing resources required to deliver consented, deliverable projects which meet operational needs, creating a performance culture via an environment of accountability for performance and results which set expectations, support development and reward contributions, you will be required to liaise with cross function teams to facilitate decisions and resolve escalated portfolio/project risks and issues.
Creating and managing mechanisms to ensure knowledge and best practice is shared between projects, you will establish strong relationships with all major stakeholders including Regulators, Planning Authorities, Governments, Consultees, Communities, Landowners, Land Agents, Internal Technical Advisors, Sub Consultants and Suppliers.
Coordinating tendering, appointment, instruction and effective management of external suppliers and contractors to ensure delivery specifications are met on time and within budget, you will manage all necessary processes and controls to ensure the effective development of projects to meet business planning and contractual requirements.
You will be required to take a proactive approach to health and safety management, including the identification and active management of risks and issues.
Additionally, you will be required to coordinate the preparation for, and delivery of, successful Planning Appeals/Public inquiries, including UK and Ireland national and local planning policies and the ability to strategically contribute to industry consultation responses.
What you’ll bring
To be successful in this role, you will need to demonstrate as minimum your proven delivery record of accomplishment in managing a portfolio of large scale development projects.
Bringing your professional qualification in a development related discipline (Planning, Environmental, Engineering, Geography, Renewables), you will possess experience within a project/development management environment, ideally in commercially focussed Renewables business with Onshore development consenting and planning experience.
Experienced in managing a skilled team with the ability to motivate and develop direct reports, you will hold technical and commercial awareness of large-scale Energy/Engineering projects and be comfortable working to tight deadlines and within a highly pressured environment.
Influencing, negotiating and communication skills are required, as is an ability to collaborate and develop strong working relationships with partner companies.
