Job Summary
City’s Environmental Health and Safety Specialist is an integral part of our Irwindale Health and Safety team in promoting our safety first culture and ensuring adherence to environmental regulations. This individual will use their expertise with OSHA compliance and GMP to work with employees of all levels at our Irwindale site to ensure all safety and health standards are understood and followed. The Environmental Health and Safety Specialist will also ensure appropriate upkeep of required records, tracking of site EH&S metrics, and availability of PPE for all site employees.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Promotes EH&S and security policies and practices throughout the facility
- Supports the implementation of new EH&S and security policies through employee training and production floor support
- Leads Safety Committees to foster a safety first culture and concerns brought forward by members; records and distributes meeting minutes
- Regularly conducts facility walk-throughs to ensure PPE and general safety practice compliance; accompanies departments as needed on monthly inspections
- Monitors and reviews security door access system, security cameras, and fire protection system alarms
- Assists EHS Manager with regulatory visits and Emergency/Fire Department and/or insurance company inspections
- Maintains all applicable OSHA mandated programs and standards in master policy manual
- Supports employees concerns by investigating, providing recommended solutions, and partnering with site personnel as needed
- Assists EHS Manager and Human Resources Department in training all new employees on City Brewery EHS programs and all current employees on required annual/bi-annual trainings
- Participates in Confined Space Program audit quarterly and reviews applicable forms
- Ensures all CO2, O2, 3-gas and 4-gas monitors are maintained at all times and records appropriate inspection documentation
- Performs various PPE fit testing for all impacted employees and ensures constant availability of all PPE needed across the facility
- Reviews all chemicals prior to utilization in the facility and records all required MSDS information; ensures departmental manuals are updated as needed
- Ensures all chemical containers are clearly labeled with warnings as needed and match the MSDS
- Assists with annual Lockout/Tagout Program audit; conducts spot checks during facility walk-throughs
- Reviews all new inventory forms on new machinery or systems in consideration of appropriate LOTO procedures
- Assists EHS Manager and departments with training and development of forklift/marklift/industrial lift programs, procedures and safety checklists
- Maintains Contractor Safety Manual; works with the EHS Manager and Engineering to ensure all contractors are appropriately trained on City Brewery safety procedures
- Conducts required drinking water and storm water observations and sampling
- Provides daily download and monitoring of wastewater systems
- Maintains visible emissions certifications
- Oversees Backflow Preventer Program
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in EH&S, Occupational Safety or related field
- 2+ years experience promoting/developing effective environmental, health, & safety programs
- Prior experience supporting/building successful safety cultures
- Familiarity with local, state, and federal EH&S compliance standards
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite including Excel, SharePoint, and PowerPoint
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
- Ability to present in front of large groups
- Available for flexible/on-call hours to support City’s 24/7 facility
- HAZWOPER and Medical Responder, certification a plus
