Kiddie Park Section Leader [Part-Time]

The Impact You’ll Make in this Role
As a Kiddie Park Section Lead, you will lead the day-to-day operations of all rides and ticket booths within Train or Kiddie Park. You will delegate and exhibit leadership to those team members you oversee. Section Leads follow all established company guidelines, policies, and procedures. You will have constant direct guest interaction and always exhibit awesome guest service.
As a Kiddie Park Section Lead, you will have the opportunity to tap into your curiosity and collaborate with some of the most innovative and diverse people in San Antonio. Here, you will make an impact by:
- Learn to safely and properly operate all rides owned and operated by the San Antonio Zoo.
- Approach each guest with an authentic greeting within 60 seconds upon entering Train or Kiddie Park.
- After every guest interaction, thank them and be sure every guest leaves satisfied with the Rides or Kiddie Park experience.
- Ensure all opening and closing procedures are complete for all operating rides.
- Engages children at their level, allowing them to become part of their memorable experience.
- Pick up and deliver banks, excess money, and change to the Cash Room in compliance with the Cash Handling Policies.
- Ensure Rides & Kiddie Park personnel are in proper uniform and assigned work areas.
- Ensure all work locations are adequately stocked and maintained and in a safe, neat, clean, and orderly condition.
- Support the creation of a cohesive team while demonstrating organizational, planning, and delegation.
- Ensure rides and all related equipment are kept neat, clean, and sanitized.
- Operate leaf blowers and pressure washers when needed.
- Monitor rider safety and take necessary measures to ensure rider’s behavior does not endanger themselves, Zoo employees, or other passengers.
- Report any unsafe conditions to the manager or director and maintenance.
- Ensure all opening and closing pre-operations checks and safety logs are completed for each ride daily.
- Handle customer complaints. If unable to resolve problems, call management.
- Responsible for helping meet financial goals (revenue, labor, and equipment expenses).
- Be able to answer questions about your surroundings, including Kiddie Park, San Antonio Zoo, and Brackenridge Park.
- Adhere and upholds all policies set forth by San Antonio Zoo.
- Consistently exhibit an attitude of service inside and outside the Zoo, showing hospitality to all.
- Be fully committed to the mission of San Antonio Zoo to create awareness that inspires action to care for the wild world we steward and the animals we protect.
Other Responsibilities:
- Performs other work-related duties as required and assigned.
Your Skills and Expertise
To set you up for success in this role from day one, the San Antonio Zoo recommends the following skills/qualifications:
- Ability to operate rides safely.
- Effective written and verbal communication skills
- Experience with narrow gauge trains preferred.
- High school diploma or general education degree (GED) is preferred.
- 1-year customer service experience preferred.
- One year of supervisory experience in retail, hospitality, or food service is preferred.
- Be able to work positively under pressure in a fast-paced, time-sensitive environment.
- Strong attention to detail, not easily distracted, and commitment to safety.
- Must react well in stressful emergencies.
- Must be 18 years of age or older with a clean driving record for vehicle operation.
- Successful candidates must complete a pre-employment National Sex Offender Search, Criminal Background Check, and Drug Screen.
- Must be able to work in varying climates and weather conditions (rain, snow, hot, or cold)
- We enjoy year-round operation for all staff, must be available day, nights, weekends, and occasional special after-hour assignments.
- Successful completion of IRT certification is required for continued employment (training provided on-site)
