The Work You Will Do:
The Environmental Specialist assists with field work in conducting environmental investigations and serves as contract and project management of contaminated sites. This is an intermediate technical position requiring knowledge in aspects of environmental site assessment and project management. The Environmental Specialist II will assist in the completion of site investigation field work that is associated with suspected soil and groundwater contamination. The ES II will also work with the public, department personnel, contractors, municipalities, and government officials in conducting these activities.

Your Specific Responsibilities:
- The ES II responds to reports of potential or actual soil and groundwater contamination cases. Conducts scientific assessments utilizing forensic assessment methodologies to collect data to determine source areas, extent of impact and responsible parties.
- The ES II serves as a contract and project manager for state-funded cleanup sites. As a project manager, the incumbent is responsible for technical and administrative aspects of environmental site assessment projects.
- The ES II works independently and informs the Environmental Administrator of status and issues regarding environmental cleanup projects throughout the state.
- Performs other related duties as required.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Knowledge of geology, hydrogeology, chemistry and Florida’s groundwater.
- Knowledge of GIS software.
- Knowledge of the concepts of environmental assessment, emphasizing workplan development and implementation.
- Skilled in technical writing to summarize investigative findings in report format.
- Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university with a major in engineering, environmental science or one of the natural sciences and one year of verifiable related experience; or Any combination of post-secondary education or verifiable related experience, as described above, for a total of five years.
Other Job Related Requirements for this position:
- Valid Driver License.
- Medical Monitoring.
- Must obtain within the first 6 months of employment the OSHA Safety Training Certification.
