JOB SUMMARY: This position is a Fish Biologist, GS- 0482-11/12 working in Arcata, California for the R8-Arcata Fish and Wildlife Office. MAJOR DUTIES: As a Fish Biologist your duties will include, but are not limited to, the following: Assist with the development and review of restoration projects and study plans to ensure validity of design, statistical rigor, and scientific merit. Review management plans and scientific reports for fisheries projects related to Federal and State fish habitat restoration projects. Provide technical expertise in the field of fish population dynamics, population estimates, resource and statistical modeling, statistical treatment of data, and providing advice to biologists in the application of biometrics to study results and data interpretations. Collect, tabulate, and compare information with historical data and recommends management actions necessary to restore and maintain fish populations in "good condition" including naturally reproducing and self-sustaining populations of salmon and other fish. Design and implement life history studies and management related ecological experiments to gain knowledge that may help recover fish populations or species.
