Overview
Duties
As a Geophysicist within the Earthquake Hazards Program Office, some of your specific duties will include:
- Defining strategic goals and developing plans to implement and guide Earthquake Hazard Program activities with direct science impact that are national and global in scope.
- Representing the Earthquake Hazard Program and articulating programmatic goals, objectives, and strategies and reporting on scientific projects and results, monitoring activities, program capabilities, gaps, and performance to responsible officials including policy makers, governmental and private sector decision makers, emergency managers, and scientists and engineers.
- Leading and participating in interagency and internal working groups and committees by articulating and communicating programmatic goals.
- Coordinating and managing the EHP's research and hazards assessment activities including designing and developing new and effective research and hazard assessment strategies, preparing position papers and proposals to ensure and augment program funding, analyzing and projecting budgetary and staffing needs to achieve programmatic goals and objectives, and evaluating and reporting on program performance.
- Communicating programmatic goals, objectives, and strategic direction by preparing and delivering position papers and presentations in various settings such as at national and international conferences and workshops, and in discussions with governmental and non-governmental organizations at international, national, and local levels.

Qualifications
BASIC EDUCATION REQUIREMENT FOR GEOPHYSICIST 1313: Applicants must meet A or B below to satisfy the basic education requirement for Geophysicist, all grade levels.
A. Successful completion of a full 4-year course of study in an accredited college or university leading to a bachelor's or higher degree that included at least 30 semester hours in mathematics (including calculus) and the physical sciences (geophysics, physics, engineering, geology, astronomy, meteorology, electronics, etc.).

B. A combination of education and experience -- at least 30 semester hours in mathematics (including calculus) and the physical sciences (geophysics, physics, engineering, geology, astronomy, meteorology, electronics, etc.), plus appropriate experience and/or additional education for a total of 4 years.
