Reporting to the HSE Manager and HSE Lead, and accountable to the Project Manager and Project Superintendent, the HSE Advisor is responsible for providing support to the Project Management Team on the actions necessary to maintain compliance with legislation, the Clark Builders HSEMS and/or client rules and requirements. This position will be a 14-month contract supporting the Special Projects Division.
Duties & Responsibilities:
Have a working knowledge of Clark Builders’ Health Safety & Environment Management System (HSEMS) as well as WorkSafe BC legislation, Worksafe Saskatchewan (Sask. OHS) & Alberta OH&S Legislation
Advise and collaborate with the Project Management Team and Trade Partners
Provide information and help implement applicable Occupational Health and Safety, and Environmental Legislation and Regulations to all stakeholders
Verify that site supervisors have adequately prepared their employees to act appropriately in emergency response situations
Verify the project is following the Project Specific HSE Plan through auditing and observation
Assist project personnel in conducting field level Pre-Task Plans (PTP) when required
Conduct PTP reviews for accuracy and relevance to the work being performed
Complete HSE training and orientations for project personnel
In conjunction with the Project Superintendent, accompanying local WorkSafe /Occupational Health and Safety representative(s) during workplace inspections and verify corrective measures necessary to comply with legislation are taken
Monitor Trade Partner safety performance and verify correction and redirection as needed
Perform audits and additional inspections as directed by Project Management
Assist in preparing trending reports for leading and lagging indicators, utilizing Procore reports to identify and address deficiencies
Prepare monthly HSE performance statistics and circulate to Project Management and as otherwise directed
Provide support and recommendations with the incident investigation process
Assist with the implementation, communication and review of the Project Specific Emergency Response Plan
Assist with permitting requirements as defined by the client and Clark Builders’ Health Safety & Environment Management System
Maintain HSEMS documentation (Inspections, Hazard Assessments, Safety Data Sheets (SDS), Toolbox and HSE Meetings, etc.)
Maintain positive and professional working relationships while interacting and communicating with all levels of management, clients, consultants and visitors to promote safety
Collaborate with the Injury Management Coordinator on the management of occupational injuries, illnesses, and Modified Work Plans
Performs other related duties as assigned by Management
Skills & Knowledge:
Must have commercial construction industry field experience
Must be a leader of safety excellence, resourceful, organized and understand the principles of Health and Safety Management
Ability to confidently speak to groups regarding safety at orientations and large meetings
Strong attention to detail, effective communication skills; confident interacting with key contacts in verbal, written and electronic form
Must display a high level of autonomy in order to prioritize work tasks and deliver results
Possesses strong interpersonal skills, including the ability to influence and effectively communicate with others
Demonstrated willingness to contribute actively to team activities, sharing experiences and ideas
Ability to manage multiple assignments with tight timelines and work in a team environment
Positive attitude, strong client focus and results driven
Excellent organizational skills that demonstrate the ability to resolve conflicting priorities
Ability to identify problems/issues, generate solutions, resolve conflict, and make sound decisions
Must have a good understanding of workplace health principles, industry best practices and standards, Injury Claims Management, Environmental and Provincial Occupational Health and Safety Legislation
Must have the ability to maintain confidential information
Previous construction experience and knowledge of construction processes is required
Must have a valid drivers’ license
Qualifications & Experience:
Minimum 3 years experience in field HSE and/or construction positions
Professional designation required such as (CRSP, CSP, ASP, CSO, etc.)
First aid Level 2 / Emergency Medical Responder is preferred
Proficient/intermediate Microsoft Office Suite
Exposure or understanding of principles of LEAN thinking an asset
Experience with coaching teams in collaborative planning
Experience with continuous improvement
