About the Role:
As a member of the Development Team, the Development Manager, Fundraising Programs plays an important role in driving new donor acquisition, retention and fundraising growth for AWC to increase our supporter base and fundraising income. This role will work closely with the National Manager, Fundraising Programs to develop strategies for the acquisition, retention and growth of key donor segments, primarily for regular giving and mid-value donors. This role will also be involved in the implementation of national fundraising campaigns and appeals.
Accountabilities will also include collaborating closely with cross-department to deliver marketing automation; contribute to the design of growth strategies; regular reporting; involvement with annual planning and the budgeting process.
This is a significant role within the Development team and requires a collaborative approach across all business areas to engage audiences in our fundraising objectives, converting new audiences to donors and deepening engagement of existing supporters. Working with the National Manager, Fundraising Programs, this role will oversee a small team of tele-fundraisers, working with external consultation and be responsible for:
- Implementation of donor acquisition, retention and growth strategies for regular giving and mid-tier segments.
- Development of digital, mail and phone lead-generation, in conjunction with National Manager, Fundraising Programs to optimise online web-based donor acquisition to attract supporters and generate upgrades.
- Managing a mid-level giving program, implementing strategic pathways between mid-value giving and major gifts.
- Assist with community fundraising programs.
- Contribute to the development of the appeals campaigns.
- Implementation of stewardship processes for mass-donor segments, including via the AWC monthly e-newsletter to ensure tailored messaging for each donor segment to align with donor journeys.
- Supporting the acquisition and conversion of donors to consider leaving a gift in their Will to AWC.
- Timely, consistent and effective reporting to ongoing monthly targets and appeal/campaign goals, to ensure AWC deploys its fundraising resources to maximise ROI.
Critical Competencies:
- A passionate interest in the conservation of Australia’s wildlife and habitats.
- Minimum 3 years’ demonstrated experience in a multi-channel fundraising role, covering the areas of:
- Exceptional planning and organisational skills, including a demonstrated ability to prioritise and execute a large number of tasks in an efficient manner.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills including the ability to establish and maintain relationships with a diverse range of stakeholders.
- Demonstrated administrative and compliance skills with a strong ability to maintain records, manage data, deliver reports, manage permit authorisation processes and undertake contract management.
- A strong work ethic including a willingness to occasionally work outside of business hours.
- Demonstrated ability to act as part of a team or, as required, independently.
- A willingness to travel occasionally to AWC sanctuaries or major Australian cities for donor and internal management purposes.
- Management skills, including the ability (or willingness) to manage individuals working remotely (ie. in other cities/states).
- Demonstrated knowledge and hands on experience of CRM-based client relationship management and the interaction of fundraising programs with an organisation’s data management system, including:
Qualifications and Experience:
- A university degree in a relevant discipline is advantageous; demonstrated experience in a similar role.
- A valid driver’s license is essential.
Inherent requirements of the role:This role is all about connecting donors (and prospective donors) to AWC’s mission of effective conservation and creating a sense of urgency to compel donors to support our important work. Day to day, this requires a hybrid approach to working in our modern central offices and working ‘on the road’ to meet donors, internal/external stakeholders and staff members in a face to face capacity. From time-to-time, you will be expected to travel to AWC sites located in rural and remote locations which may be away from an established office-base. Whilst on site, the working environment can be outdoors and often in the extremes of weather – hot/cold and wet or dry. On occasion, there may be physical activities including walking in remote locations, carrying loads and driving manual 4WD vehicles. The successful applicant must be able to adapt to performing their professional activities in these remote conditions.
