Description/Job Summary
Lindahl Reed is seeking a Special Assistant to support the Department of Energy’s (DOE) Deputy Assistant Secretary for Renewable Energy (DAS-RE). The Renewable Energy Pillar comprises four technology offices: Geothermal Technologies Office, Solar Energy Technologies Office, Water Power Technologies Office, and Wind Energy Technologies Office. The Special Assistant will need to develop an understanding of each technology office’s programs, portfolios, and teams to recognize who the cognizant personnel within the RE pillar should be for various activities. They should have or be ready to develop a general understanding of the role within the energy landscape of RE’s primary stakeholders (such as electric utilities, manufacturers, developers, trade associations, state and federal regulators, etc.).
Position Responsibilities:
- Managing technical review materials and engaging with internal and external stakeholders
- Developing a daily briefing book for the DAS for review and approval of materials, including independently assessing whether materials are complete and working with technology and program managers to ensure all needed materials are included
- Handling materials that may include reports, memos, talking points or other communications materials, financial assistance materials, project proposals, budget documents, and other items
- Coordinating internal and external DAS meetings based on topic and technical material to be covered. Candidate should develop a strong enough understanding of technical portfolios and sensitivities to independently assess relative meeting priority, identify/recommend relevant attendees, and communicate with external stakeholders about relevant topics on behalf of the DAS
- Coordinating with travel scheduler to structure DAS travel to meet project or office needs
- Joining the DAS in meetings and conversations in order to track and assign due-outs, track down and provide follow-up documents/materials for the DAS, and keep abreast of high priority and sensitive items for DAS tracking and decision-making.
Qualifications, Skills, and Experience:
- Required: Bachelor’s degree in engineering, science, or related technical discipline
- Demonstrated experience in technical work in energy
- Exceptional communication skills with proven experience engaging with various stakeholders
- Strong analytical skills, with the ability to collect and analyze data to support management decisions
- Proven success working in a multi-disciplinary environment where teamwork is essential
- Professional attitude, strong attention to detail, and highly proficient in Microsoft Office including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
- Self-starter, an ability to work both independently and as part of a highly dynamic collaborative team
- Must be able to work under tight deadlines, support multiple/simultaneous program/project efforts, and occasional travel
- Detail oriented with excellent organizational, time-management, and interpersonal skills
- Experience working within the federal government and specifically the Office of Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy strongly preferred
