About Us
Duvel has a thing for blondes. Established in 1871, the Belgian brewer specializes in blonde, bottle-conditioned, high-fermentation beers that are sold in more than 50 countries. Its brands include Maredsous, Bel Pils, Bernard, Vedett, and flagship Duvel (originally named Victory Ale to commemorate the end of WWI). The firm owns American artisan brewery Ommegang and targets the Central European market through its 50-50 joint venture with the Czech brewery Bernard. Duvel entered the natural fruit-juice market by acquiring 70% of Freya. The company also owns the Belgian brewer Brouwerij Liefmans and is buying rival Brouwerij De Koninck. Dutch company Fibemi owns 64% Duvel; CEO Veerle Baert owns 10%.
