Son of a zookeeper in the United Kingdom, Matthew's remarkable journey in the field of conservation includes National Audubon Society, where he dedicated 16 years, quickly advancing to leadership positions, diligently crafting Audubon's conservation objectives, strategies, and programs across the Western Hemisphere, spanning from Canada to Chile. Preceding his tenure at Audubon, Matthew spent in Southeast Asia, collaborating with government agencies and local communities to combat illegal wildlife trade and establish new protected areas.

Matthew's career path and growth have exposed him to various facets of conservation on different scales, from local to global and across diverse regions. His knowledge and experience encompass all ecosystems, ranging from oceans and coastlines to grasslands and forests, spanning temperate to tropical zones, sea level to mountain peaks. Throughout this remarkable journey, Matthew has engaged with individuals of diverse nationalities and cultures, bridging the gap between community members, NGO leaders, and government officials, consistently earning trust and respect.
