About
My name is Jeri Wilcox and I am currently finishing up a Master of Advanced Studies in Climate Science and Policy at Scripps Institution of Oceanography. I will graduate with my degree in June of 2023 and I am excited to begin a career devoted to helping the environment using my interdisciplinary skills and knowledge. I am currently researching the impact of atmospheric rivers on phytoplankton community structure and abundance in coastal areas at Scripps, and I have additional lab experience from two research projects I did at Biosphere 2 in Oracle, Arizona. In these roles I gained skills in the lab and in the field setting as well as abilities in multi-tasking, paying attention to detail, and in the scientific process in general. I have a B.S. in Environmental Science with an emphasis in the Biosphere and a minor in Marine Science. My education has focused on the systems and processes which describe how the natural world around us works as well as the laws and policies which govern our interaction with nature, particularly in the United States. In addition to the research that I conducted during my undergraduate career, I was a Director of the largest sustainability organization at the University of Arizona, called Students for Sustainability. In this role I learned management skills, developed my communication abilities, and learned a lot about implementing sustainability projects in a setting with many stakeholders and politics. I also have worked many customer service jobs, from being a barista to a manager at a recreation center. These jobs have honed in my people and communication skills and have perfected my professionalism abilities.
