Description

GENERAL STATEMENT OF DUTIES:

Assist the Environmental Program Coordinator to: Perform technical/professional work in the organization and implementation of stormwater, wellhead protection, recycling, and environmental outreach programs. The intern will gain experience both in the office and in the field in a variety of environmental areas overseen by the City’s Environmental Division.

This seasonal position offers flexible, part-time scheduling at approximately 20 hours per week. Work is typically performed during normal business hours (Monday–Friday, 7:30 a.m.–4:00 p.m.) with an occasional weekend or evening required.

SUPERVISION RECEIVED:

Under general supervision by the Environmental Program Coordinator and Environmental and Storm Service Manager.

Essential Functions

Prepare and deliver educational information regarding environmental issues and regulatory programs to school, citizen, business, and employee groups.
Assist with stormwater permit compliance involving outfall and inlet monitoring and storm pond inspections.
Help coordinate community events and manage volunteers.
Assist with grant-related tree planting, monitoring and maintenance.
Develop social media content for environmental events and programming.

Physical Requirements/Working Conditions

Exhibit a level of proficiency using computers and general understanding of various software applications, such as Microsoft Word, Excel, etc.
Attendance and punctuality are essential functions to this position.
Applicant must have some weekend availability for events.
Keyboarding; reading; writing; contact with general public; using the telephone; lifting up to 50 lbs., working in rough terrain or in inclement weather conditions.
