C12 develops quantum computers, to solve highly complex computing tasks, currently out of reach of even the most powerful supercomputers. Building a quantum computer still needs innovators ready to tackle exciting challenges. C12’s founders are convinced that only a new material for the qubit will bring a technological breakthrough. C12 uniquely uses carbon nanotubes as the fundamental building blocks of its quantum processor. This high-purity material minimises errors, radically improves performance and reduces hardware overhead for fault-tolerant computing. Your role at C12 Quantum Electronics

- Under the supervision of our Head of CNT Growth, you will contribute to the highly specific synthesis of Carbon Nanotubes by Catalytic Chemical Vapour Deposition (CVD) process by designing, conducting and analysing complex experiments.

Your job will involve:

Designing and conducting both liquid and gas-phase chemistry experiments Optimising the catalyst chemical formulation and deposition techniquesOptimising the CVD parameters (gas, rates, temperature, pressure, …) for better specificityImproving the spin qubit fidelity with isotopically purified carbon precursorsContinuous improvement of the CVD setup (hardware) and process (improving the control software is optional)Improving the current understanding of CNT growth mechanismWorking closely with the CNT Characterisation team (SEM, Raman, Rayleigh) to measure CNT diameter, band gap, defects, chirality.

About you

- You have at least an engineering diploma or master’s degree in chemistry, physics or a related field; a PhD or one past work experience is also appreciated
- You love experimental lab work
- You have some experience in experimental setup design and fabrication
- You like collecting, organising and analysing your data
- You can anticipate and plan your experiments in advance
- A prior experience with carbon nanotubes, CVD or other cleanroom processes is a plus but not required
- You are diligent, independent, result-oriented and have a problem-solving attitude
- You are detail-oriented and organised in your work and documentation style
- You have excellent written and verbal communication skills in English.

C12’s unique technology

At C12, a qubit, the fundamental functional unit of a quantum computer, is built from an isotopically ultra-pure 12C nanotube suspended above a silicon chip containing control electrodes and a quantum communication bus. Our spin qubits hold great promise in terms of individual control and manipulation as well as for the circuit architecture. A suspended isotopically-pure 12C nanotube holds great promise in terms of stability, as it reduces all sources of decoherence (charge noise, nuclear spin noise and phonon relaxation).
