What will you do?
A Process Setup & Operate sets up, maintains, and repairs complex equipment used in the manufacturing of a variety of assemblies. Automation Setup has a broad set of job and performance responsibilities with the qualification and independence to operate efficiently and safely with minimal supervisory input or technical support.
This position performs routine maintenance and statistical process control to meet production requirements, verify replacement tooling for conformance, troubleshoot and make necessary machine adjustments or tooling replacements; stock materials as needed. Job duties are primarily machine-paced and self-directed.
- Reads and understands blueprints, visualizes small metal parts of various shapes and sizes in three dimensions, performs machine set-up and adjustment, performs SPC control, and stocks and restocks tools and materials.
- Sets dies and forms to required part specifications using blueprints, machine operating specifications, and SPC requirements.
- Utilizes specific machine specifications and weld requirements.
- Analyzes machine, production part, and SPC sources for possible corrective action and must carefully document all adjustments and communicate necessary information.
- Maintains a clean area according to 5S requirements and ensures waste handling is compliant with local, state, and governmental regulatory requirements.
- Must have a thorough understanding of the basic parts and working components of automated metal parts forming machines and dies, how they operate, their peculiarities, and how they should be maintained and operated to maximize production quantities and meet all quality requirements.
- Maintains pace sufficient to allow Bihler/STM equipment to run continuously.
- Tracks hourly production counts, troubleshoots and problem-solves operational problems in minor instances and seek proper support in major instances. Uses SPC to monitor and adjust machinery as needed.
- Meets specified production schedule, achieves productivity goals, documents machine performance and SPC conformance.
- Maintains part quality requirements.
- Overtime may be available and/or assigned to ensure production demand is met.
What qualifications will make you successful?
- GED or High School diploma required.
- Previous work experience preferred, but not required.
- Must be able to pass a skills assessment test on reading and writing comprehension, math skills, and mechanical aptitude.
- Ability to use measuring instruments.
- Ability to work safely, use good judgment, and work well around others.
- Ability to use standard mechanics tools.
- Ability to read, write and count in order to keep track of inventory.
- Must have the ability to communicate, including verbal and written English.
- Ability to enter data into a computer.
- Constant standing and walking.
- Occasional sitting on chair to perform inspection and write documentation.
- Rare neck extension to view computer screens (screens above eye level).
- Rare neck flexion to utilize measuring gauges and perform visual inspection activities on a small surface plate.
- Occasional full forward reach at waist to just above shoulder height to remove or install tool holders (slides) weighing 5-45 lbs, reposition or guide raw stock through equipment in a small area covered in machine oil mist; exact placement of objects in a small area is required with both hands grasping and holding at less than shoulder width just above shoulder height.
- Occasional unilateral or bilateral forceful hand grasp to remove or install tool holders (slides), reposition or guide raw stock through equipment.
- Occasional bilateral finger pinch and grasp to hold Allen wrenches, screw drivers, brass probes and other miscellaneous hand tools.
- Occasional wrist flexion, supination and pronation to loosen/tighten (torque) bolts for slide removal or tooling changes (estimated hand grip force required is 25-65 lbs).
- Occasional push/pull force of 20-50 lbs required to push/pull dies from storage racks to carts to Bihler/STM (die weight is approximately 150 lbs).
- Rare forward flexion of the back while lifting metal bins weighing 9-35 lbs from floor to waist
- Rare full forward flexion of the back while rolling wire spools weighing 150 lbs approximately 20 feet on the floor.
- Rare loading and pushing of 55 gallon oil drum (450 lbs full) on a four-wheeled barrel cart. Operator lifts the cart up to load and position the cart and then lowers to four wheels and pushes the barrel cart forward approximately 450 ft. Initial lift to position barrel onto cart requires approximately 55 lbs force (bilateral) immediately lowering to four wheels and 8-10 lbs pushing force to roll cart.
- Rare step up on to one-step platform (8-10”) or two-step stepladder.
