You’ll have accountability for the operational performance of external debt collection agencies (DCA’s) in the collection of Live and Final debt within the current regulatory and compliance framework. Along with managing the Early Collections, ScottishPower (SP) branded activities with the DCAs.
What you’ll be doing
- Recommend and implement account allocation to external DCA’s (dependent upon performance) ensuring that target collections for Early Collections activity KPI’s are achieved
- Performance manage as part of panel management DCA’s to establish trends, highlight collection discrepancies
- Manage the tender process with procurement to deliver cost structures and collection strategies with external DCA
- Work in conjunction with Procurement, Legal, Complaints and Data Protection departments to deliver all contractual requirements for agency tender process to completion.
- Represent SP to ensure maximum collection and trace potential is achieved and that the company reputation is maintained at all times
- Continuously review the relationships with existing agents by conducting regular visits to agency premises for the purpose of performance reviews and auditing.
- Ensure adherence to Debt Collection Guidelines, Data Protection standards, Information Security and all other regulatory requirements.
- Produce robust performance reporting to understand, analyse and challenge key Agency activity trends & variances
- Forecast, control and monitor Legal and Professional budget and communicate costs and benefits associated with alternative courses of action.
- Support the Head of Final & Early Collections in the development of strategic solutions to prevent debt and maximise cash collection – especially with respect to key lessons learned from the DCA processes.
- Work with other operational managers across Domestic Debt Operations to enhance awareness of the financial impacts of debt and write offs.
- Identify processes that are adversely impacting on Agency activity
- Implement a continuous improvement culture within the team and pro-actively identify problem accounts, patterns and trends.
What you’ll bring
- Experience of managing 3rd party relationships
- Strong negotiation techniques.
- Ability to analyse statistical information
- Experience of SAP and budget management and control including forecasting
- Good understanding and knowledge of ER end to end processes especially debt collection processes
- Knowledge of the current regulatory framework governing Debt Collection
- Ability to understand complex issues and take decisive action.
- Ability to challenge conventional processes and build cross-functional improvement relationships.
- Good written and verbal communication skills
- Excellent leadership and organisational skills
- Strong analytical and planning skills
- Ability to prioritise work and deliver results whilst managing multiple stakeholders and competing demands within a rapidly changing environment

Minimum Criteria
- Experience of debt collections systems, processes models and policies.
- Experience of managing commercial contracts with external parties
- Exceptional interpersonal skills, including communication, teamwork, facilitation and negotiation
- Excellent planning and organisational skills.
- Financial and Business Acumen, especially the ability to manage performance data and KPIs
- Highly numerate and analytical
- Experience of SAP ISU
