With plans to see SP Energy Networks (SPEN), part of the ScottishPower Group, look to invest over £5bn in transmission projects across our transmission network in central and southern Scotland by 2030, the Operations Planning team will play a key role in supporting SPEN to work at pace to deliver the transmission network that is required to support ambitions Scottish and UK Government 2030 targets.
A Quantity Surveyor provides commercial support, expertise and knowledge for a portfolio of network engineering and construction projects from pre-tender and contract award stage through to final account, preparing accurate measurements and values ensuring risk is limited whilst achieving the required standard and quality.
What you’ll be doing
- Assess monthly contractor measures by interfacing with various team members and agree a financial sum for works completed.
- Lead commercial meetings with contractors to agree costs and mitigate the impact of changes to the contract sum.
- Record all contractual and commercial information associated with the project(s) within project files and commercial databases or other systems applicable.
- Monitor and implement all contractual obligations with respect to notifications, payments and responses.
- Assess variations and claims including interfacing with various departments (legal, Engineering, Environmental, project Management) to understand cause & SPT liability.
- Make commercial recommendations (including risks) to the business to assist with the decision-making process with respect to variations and claims.
- Prepare & recommend to the Project Manager a value for the contractor final account.
- Compliance with SPEN Integrated management system, required for the professional and efficient delivery of the investment programme, including externally accredited systems for Health and Safety, Environmental and Quality management.
- Assess how the QS functions operationally and proactively submit proposals for improvement.
You will be predominantly office-based, with occasional site work when required.
What you’ll bring
We are looking for individuals who have experience of working with various stakeholder groups and who can build effective working relationships within these groups.
You will be highly numerate and will have the ability to respond quickly and flexibly to problems, solving them while prioritising effectively between competing deadlines.
As a minimum, you will demonstrate:
- Degree in Quantity Surveying or relevant/equivalent subject.
- Significant experience of QS in a construction environment.
- Expertise working on FIDIC & NEC.
- User of CESMM3 and any other standard method of measurement.
- Good knowledge of Microsoft Office applications.
- Awareness of construction legislation.
- Full UK driving licence.
