Avangrid Renewables is seeking an experienced nodal market analyst to join the Fundamentals group at Avangrid Renewables headquarters in Portland, OR. The successful candidate will work on highly technical, quantitative, and analytical initiatives and projects including, but not limited to, power flow analysis, market simulation, locational marginal price (LMP) analysis, renewable integration studies, and evaluation of the impact of market rule changes on these forecasts and analyses in the Eastern Interconnect and ERCOT regions. The ideal candidate will have a deep understanding of nodal market operations in one or both of these regions, power flow analysis experience, and experience with or desire to learn power markets.
Skills and Requirements
Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering (power system emphasis desired), Mathematics or related quantitative field with strong preference given to candidates with solid educational background in power systems analysis or equivalent combination of education and relevant industry experience.
5 years of experience in transmission and market simulation modeling or equivalent experience; (the company may consider candidates with less experience at a lower level).
Deep understanding of transmission system and power flow fundamentals, LMP formation, and relevant sensitivities.
Demonstrated experience with ISO market operations with respect to LMP modeling and working with optimization models, including detailed knowledge of optimization and quantitative methods and data underlying market simulations, power flow, contingency and congestion analysis, unit commitment and economic dispatch.
Proficiency in PowerWorld Simulator or other load flow analysis tools.
Proficiency in use of Excel for analysis and other Microsoft office tools.
Demonstrated understanding of the ERCOT, PJM, NE-ISO, MISO or NYISO market design, operations, and price formation.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to communicate effectively with both business and technical personnel at all organizational levels. Must work collaboratively with Fundamentals colleagues in the US and Spain, and with internal stakeholders.
Must demonstrate effective resource and project planning, decision making, results delivery, team building, and the ability to stay current with relevant technology and innovations and market rule changes that impact job responsibilities.
Ability to acquire FERC Critical Energy Infrastructure Information (CEII) clearance and safeguard critical information appropriately.
Ability to work independently or with a team and communicate with people from a wide variety of backgrounds.
Preferred Skills
Experience with power market price forecasting and simulations using constrained economic dispatch models such as Aurora.xmp or similar.
Extensive knowledge of power market simulation/optimization models and/or transmission systems analysis tools and data sources.
