The Ohio Environmental Protection Agency wants you to be our newest environmental specialist in the Division of Environmental Response and Revitalization (DERR), working at our central office in Columbus, Ohio.

As Ohio EPA’s environmental specialist, you’ll assist the implementation of DERR’s hazardous waste inspection assistance program. You’ll prepare inspection checklists, conduct technical assistance-related inspections at hazardous waste management facilities, and provide inspection and pollution prevention-related technical assistance to the agency’s district offices. You’ll provide pollution prevention information at each inspection and develop strategies for upgrading non-complying facilities.
In conjunction with DERR, you’ll coordinate activities for remedial actions, including closure plans, post-closure plans, and corrective actions. You’ll review findings of inspections and other evidence to be used in hearings and litigation, and review possible pollution prevention projects in settlement negotiations. You’ll assist Central and District offices in reviewing hazardous waste facility closure plans, hazardous waste installation and operations permits, and RCRA facility assessments.
Additionally, you’ll provide regulatory assistance to industry, agency personnel, consultants, government officials, industry, and citizens on state and federal hazardous waste regulations, treatment and disposal options, and pollution prevention resources. You’ll provide direct input into the development of grant commitments and statewide guidelines related to hazardous waste facility inspections and enforcement, as well as develop various portions of the enforcement procedures and regulations for the agency and state.

- OR 4 yrs. trg. or 4 yrs. exp. in position involving engineering or chemistry, physics, biology, environmental science, geology or hydrogeology &/or other comparable physical or health science field &/or mathematics which included responsibility for conducting compliance monitoring surveys &/or inspections/reviews or investigations, or review of permit applications relative to oil & gas well operations or injection, annular disposal & saltwater injection wells & enhanced recovery projects or coal mining, or solid/hazardous waste sites or industrial & municipal wastewater dischargers, or collecting, compiling & preparing various environmental assessments, evaluations, reports & related documents.
