Job Description
Sustainability Manager I
The Sustainability Manager will support the deployment and execution of Amcor’s decarbonization strategy and customer engagements. The role will serve as a central point of contact and support for Amcor’s global Business Groups; acting as a subject matter expert, resource, and key contact to ensure that Amcor’s sustainability agenda and goals are achieved. This position will also act as liaison to Amcor’s global customers, addressing their sustainability requests to ensure business continuity and growth.
Key Job Accountabilities
Strategy Execution:
- Align with our ‘Being Amcor’ model, lead and execute the Amcor elements of Amcor’s decarbonization \ strategy. Help the Business Groups develop and implement sustainability action plans.
- Ensure that sustainability initiatives within assigned business groups are in alignment with the broader company sustainability framework and customer expectations.
- Program Management:
- Collaborate with internal business functions (product development, sales/commercial, innovation, operations, engineering, procurement, communications) to execute a coordinated sustainability plan.
- Create, document, and implement new processes and policies where needed to advance Amcor’s and customers’ sustainability goals.
- Develop documents & presentations to help support Commercial meetings and customer sustainability expectations. Lead cross-functional collaboration to build decarbonization roadmaps for customers and present the roadmaps to customers as the subject matter expert.
- Serves as the internal leader and “go to” expert for sustainability, monitoring emerging trends, programs and issues, and communicating and educating others on sustainability topics through internal communication channels.
Job Description
Technical:
- Drives Business Groups’ progress toward sustainability goals, reducing greenhouse gas emissions, recycled materials use, waste to disposal, and water use. Ensures accurate and timely reporting. Offers expertise and provides leadership-level support for customer engagements and initiatives to deliver on decarbonization roadmaps.
- Lead the implementation of a new product carbon footprint software through collaboration with IT, Business Group sustainability teams, and the vendor.
- Educate Amcor colleagues and customers about science-based targets, Amcor’s decarbonization strategy, progress against our goals, and additional sustainability-related topics.
Industry & Group Partnership:
- Participate in external and internal meetings when Sustainability is an agenda topic.
- Builds effective partnerships with appropriate business functional leaders to support sustainability efforts.
- Represents Amcor and asserts company interests within appropriate industry organizations.
Qualifications/Requirements
- Education: Bachelor's Degree in Business, Environmental Science, or Engineering, Master’s Degree preferred
- Minimum 6 years of experience in engineering or business positions related to improving the sustainability profile of manufactured products, preferably plastics
- Direct knowledge of the commercial and regulatory landscape of the secondary market of recycled materials
- Knowledge of the industry associations and lobby groups involved in the waste collection secondary market industry
- Familiar with the waste collection, processing and sale industry structure and support Amcor’s global ambition to create a plastics circular economy
- Demonstrated professional work characteristics including high initiative, dependability, and credibility
- Excellent program/project management experience (PMP certification is preferred)
- Able to differentiate between conflicting priorities and issues to identify underlying causes
- Excellent written and verbal communications skills
- Excellent working knowledge of Microsoft Excel, Word and PowerPoint software
- Ability to maintain and deal with confidential information
- Must be well organized and comfortable interfacing with all levels of management
- Plans, organizes, and controls large work volume in fast-paced environment
- Demonstrated ability to work with minimal supervision
