JOB DESCRIPTION
JOB TITLE: Specialist, Human Resources (Environmental, Health & Safety)
FLSA STATUS: Exempt
REPORTS TO: Manager, Human Resources (Corporate)
SUMMARY
This technical position is responsible for developing, implementing, and continually improving the company’s standardized environmental and safety systems globally. The Corporate EHS Specialist works collaboratively with the manufacturing plant HR managers, general managers, and other company resources to become a business partner focused on maintaining and improving performance across a range of metrics. This position ensures all locations comply with federal, state, and local laws, and Summit policies and procedures. This position is responsible to ensure environmental and safety concerns are resolved across the company.
RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES
- Exhibits positive leadership and acts with the highest levels of integrity and ethics
- Champions global, corporate wide compliance to environmental and safety standards and procedures
- Administers, trains, and communicates the company’s environmental and safety standards and procedures to ensure they are effectively implemented and maintained throughout the company
- Performs environmental and safety compliance audits at all Summit locations and participates in and follows up on corrective actions as needed
- Leads and collaborates with plant human resources managers and general managers to improve standards and procedures in environmental and safety across the organization
- Continuously improves environmental and safety related processes, procedures and audits in order to drive efficiency and effectiveness
- Ensures compliance on corporate metric reporting to external agencies including OSHA, and other local environmental quality regulatory entities
- Completes OEM required surveys & reports regarding environmental compliance, sustainability, and corporate social responsibility
- Provides environmental, safety and sustainability expertise as a corporate resource
- Leads required updates, training, and compliance for ISO 14001
- Participates in external ISO 14001 audits on site at plants
- Provides support in developing and participates in training plans for plant HR managers at manufacturing plants relating to environmental and safety activities
- Serves as the subject matter expert, maintaining up to date knowledge for all compliance & regulatory related topics and provides guidance to HR and manufacturing team members
- Develops justifications for environmental & safety related improvement projects
- Provides support to manufacturing plants in obtaining/modifying, managing, and reporting for environmental related permits
- Provides additional support at manufacturing plants as needed
- Leads Safety Kaizen activities
- Other tasks and duties as assigned
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
- A minimum of 5 years’ experience in environmental and safety in a manufacturing facility
- Bachelor’s degree in a related field is preferred
- A minimum of 2 years’ experience in corporate leadership role preferred
- International experience including Mexico and China preferred

- Demonstrated capability in ensuring corporate-wide legal and company standard compliance in the areas of environmental and safety
- Demonstrated ability to develop a company culture focused on safety and continuous improvement
- Expert safety incident investigation and problem-solving skills utilizing root cause-based methods
- Energetic, confident, and assertive with the ability to lead, influence, and motivate others
- Ability to lead a team spanning multiple sites and countries
- Create a positive, constructive working environment built on honesty, fairness, integrity, and respect
- Must be able to gather and analyze information easily and make appropriate decisions or proposals
- Ability to manage multiple projects and priorities at once and meet due dates
- Ability to work in an organized, efficient manner with a high level of accuracy, attention to detail and follow through
- Ability to work hands on at a detailed level when needed and understanding of the day-to-day operations of the HR and manufacturing departments role in environmental and safety
- Problem solving to eliminate them at their root cause
- ISO 14001 Auditor trained
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills with impeccable grammar
- Excellent public speaking skills
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Word, and PowerPoint
- Minimum score of 50 on the Wonderlic Select Assessment (Traditional score of 26 on the Cognitive portion).
- Successful completion of any/all required pre-employment screening/testing procedures
TRAVEL REQUIREMENTS
- This position typically does require the flexibility to travel as needed, up to 18 weeks per year.
