Responsible for coordinating Federal, State, and Local regulatory requirements related to environmental compliance for water, wastewater, stormwater, asbestos, hazardous waste, and general environmental.

DUTIES
- Assist, support, and provide professional knowledge for compliance with Environmental standards and regulations within the departments.
- Monitor regulatory changes for impact on the City of Denton; develop comments on new or modified regulations and create strategies and procedures to cope with regulatory changes.
- Identify, determine, and address needed areas of change and make recommendations to improve operations.
- Monitor and track assigned program success for key performance metrics.
- Present environmental compliance and environmental policy topics to internal stakeholders.
- Attend board, commission, committee, and council meetings, as needed.
- Participate in public education and outreach activities related to environmental issues; represent the City of Denton through participation in boards, interaction with other governmental agencies, and conducting presentations to the public, government, and professional groups.
INTERNAL COMPLIANCE- Provide technical support to city departments on a variety of environmental issues including but not limited to asbestos, waste management, due diligence (all appropriate inquiries rule), storage tank compliance, indoor air quality, stormwater management, and spill prevention, control, and countermeasures (SPCC) plan compliance.
- Ensures that City operations comply with applicable environmental regulations that are beyond day-to-day operations such as providing potable water, treating reclaimed water, etc.
- Manage third-party vendors for environmental consulting services, waste disposal, or other topics as needed.
- Perform field work such as hazardous waste assessments, storage tank inspections, etc.

Job Requirements
EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, AND LICENSES/CERTIFICATIONS
- Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited college or university in Environmental Chemistry, Environmental Science, Environmental Management, Biology, Chemistry, Environmental Planning, City Planning, or related field; and,
- For Internal Compliance, one (1) year experience with Federal/State/Local regulations in Clean Water Act, stormwater, wastewater, hazardous waste, and asbestos environmental regulations and issues, or related field; and,
- For Environmentally Sensitive Areas, one (1) year experience with municipal planning, application of development codes in the planning process, zoning issues, environmental consideration of proposed land use(s), or related field; and,
OR
- Any combination of related education, experience, certifications, and licenses that will result in a candidate successfully performing the essential functions of the job.

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT- Must have and maintain a valid Class “C” Driver’s License and valid state required minimum automobile liability insurance prior to employment (must obtain Texas Class “C” driver’s license and state required minimum automobile liability insurance within 90 days of hire per state law)
- Must pass a drug test, driver’s license check, criminal history background check, and social security number verification.
Environmental Factors and Conditions/Physical Requirements
SAFETY
- Perform preventive maintenance on tools and equipment; ensure equipment is in safe operating condition.
- Follow established safety procedures and techniques to perform job duties, including lifting and climbing; operate tools and equipment according to established safety procedures.

WORKING CONDITIONS/PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS- Safety Sensitive (Subject to random drug testing): Yes.
- Tools/Equipment Used: Standard office equipment, including computer and peripherals; wear appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE).
- Posture: Prolonged sitting and standing; occasional stooping, squatting, kneeling, bending, pushing/pulling, and twisting.
- Motion: Frequent repetitive hand motions, including keyboarding and use of mouse; occasional reaching.
- Lifting: Lifting no more than 20 pounds and carrying up to 10 pounds.
- Environment: Works in an office and laboratory setting and outside with exposure to sun, heat, cold and inclement weather, noise, chemicals, odor, and rough terrain; occasionally requires irregular and/or prolonged hours.
- Travel: Travels to City of Denton buildings and professional meetings as required.
- Attendance: Regular and punctual attendance at the worksite is required for this position. Must be able to work outside normal business hours, as needed. Must be able to work overtime, as needed.
