DescriptionThe environmental and regulatory compliance adviser will manage and lead an organization that will ensure operating procedures are in place to meet all environmental and regulatory compliance requirements and manage compliance with operating permits and plans.
ResponsibilitiesManages the development, implementation and compliance auditing of facility and corporate environmental and regulatory programs and policies to meet regulatory and business requirements.
Manages the development, implementation and compliance auditing of environmental programs and policies (Environmental Protection Agency, Iowa Department of Natural Resources, Polk County Air Quality, Illinois EPA) and regulatory programs and policies (North American Electric Reliability Corporation GADS, Midcontinent Independent System Operator GADS, Department of Homeland Security, Department of Transportation, Iowa Utilities Board) to meet environmental and regulatory requirements.
Develops compliance management systems to ensure all environmental and regulatory requirements are met and completed on schedule.
Develops and submits reports as required by environmental and regulatory permits and plans.
Remains current on regulatory issues and advises management on proposed state and federal law and regulations regarding environmental and other regulatory requirements.
Performs administrative activities necessary for the effective management of the department, including employee safety, organization goals, objectives and planning, employment test administration, and organizing, integrating, measuring and reporting the work performed within the department.
Effectively supervises and directs environmental consultants, contractors and vendors.
Performs additional responsibilities as requested or assigned.
QualificationsBachelor's degree in engineering, environmental or related field is required, or equivalent work experience. (Typically six years of related, progressive work experience would be needed for candidates applying for this position who do not possess a bachelor's degree.)
Eight or more years of experience working in an environmental or related field.
An advanced knowledge of environmental laws and regulations, with the demonstrated ability to analyze complex regulations and determine applicability based on an understanding of the facility operations. Effective analytical, problem-solving and decision-making skills.
Excellent oral and written communication skills, including presentation skills. Ability to read, analyze and interpret documents, such as business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, governmental regulations. Able to write reports, business correspondence and procedure manuals. Able to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, the general public and employees at all levels.
Effective interpersonal skills and leadership abilities. Must possess the ability to establish and maintain good working relationships with business unit personnel, government agencies, trade groups and other industries.
Ability to define obscure and incomplete problems, collect data, establish facts and draw valid conclusions. Able to conceptualize and develop creative alternatives to problem resolution. Ability to deal with abstract and concrete concepts.
Computer skills, including competency with Microsoft office products, spreadsheets, presentation tools, etc. or a demonstrated ability to learn such skills.
