WSP has an exciting career opportunity for an Environmental Water Practice Lead to join our Texas operation. This individual will manage the Texas Operation’s Environmental Water group and interface with other water leaders across the West Region and the U.S. This position can be located in our Austin, Dallas, El Paso, Houston, or San Antonio office.

You will be engaged in exciting projects across the U.S. ranging from FEMA Risk MAP (Risk Mapping, Assessment and Planning) activities, transportation drainage and other similar water resources projects. Our professionals are networked across the WSP organization and are active in technical organizations advancing our practice.
Your Impact
- Work with other Water Resources Service Practice Leaders across the West region.
- Lead an established project team completing projects that include tasks such as the development of hydrologic and hydraulic models of open and closed systems, flood hazard mitigation analysis, risk data analysis, GIS analysis, and preparation of planning reports.
- Leads, coordinates, and performs drainage design activities on projects to include technical planning, design and construction support.
- May perform detailed drainage design for; highways, roadway, culverts, storm drain systems, retention/detention basins, erosion control measures, hydraulic structures including weirs, drop structures, and energy dissipaters.
- Lead and support business development and strategic planning efforts to increase market share in priority markets, including federal, state and local clients.
- Supervise and direct staff to ensure optimal productivity, positive motivation, training, and employee recognition.
- Recruit/hire staff and direct project staffing assignments to meet client, contract, and company business objectives.
- Act as program/project manager and/or provide senior level technical roles for select projects and programs in planning, analysis, engineering and/or design associated with flood risk management, drainage engineering, and other related surface water resources management projects.
- Manage and coordinate project teams, including ensuring the technical quality of deliverables.
- Convey results and findings by means of oral discussions, graphic-based presentations, and project documentation.
- Travel to project sites and attend public meetings.
- Support and contribute to financial, project management, backlog, and utilization reporting requirements for the Texas Operation.
Who You Are
Required Qualifications
- BS in Civil Engineering or related engineering degree.
- 10+ years of RISKMAP, floodplain modeling/mapping, stormwater quality/management, drainage infrastructure design, project management, and business experience with increasing levels of supervisory and managerial responsibility,
- Professional Engineer (PE) required. Texas license preferred or be in position to obtain registration through reciprocity.
- Proficient in stormwater management, hydrology, and hydraulic practices.
- Experienced with software such as: FLO-2D, HEC-1/HEC-HMS, HEC-2/HEC-RAS/HEC-RAS 2D, HEC-6/HEC-6T, Microstation, AutoCAD Civil 3D, and HY-8 as this individual will mentor train and check models of junior engineers.
- Expertise in the use of GIS for data import, manipulation, review, querying, filtering/screening of results.
- Proven effective leadership, business development, client management, and project management experience.
- Strong interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills.
- Familiarity with the National Flood Insurance Program and FEMA flood insurance study regulations.
- Must pass background check and must have a satisfactory driving record in accordance with the Company's driving (MVR) policy.
Preferred Qualifications
- Master of Science in Civil Engineering.
- 15+ Years experience with municipalities, State/Local agencies, and river authorities client types.
- Strong knowledge and relationships within the Texas market.
