Position Summary
Teaches education courses and performs instructional duties in diverse learning environments. Adjunct faculty is expected that faculty maintain current professional standards and practices, as well as attend committee/department meetings, and support the mission of SFCC. Must be committed to serving a diverse college community
Duties & Responsibilities
- Provide the most effective instruction possible in one’s discipline to insure that the educational needs of students are met and that students achieve specified learning objectives.
- Teach assigned courses, whether on campus or off campus, day or evening, following the official syllabi and using approved textbooks and other learning materials.
- Meet all classes regularly and on time, as scheduled, and for their full duration.
- Follow established Los and Outcomes for assigned courses, since these are already set in the Master Syllabi.
- Evaluate student performance (attainment of learning objectives) and assign grades.
- Work with Lead Faculty or Director in course/program review
- Work with Lead Faculty or Director to upgrade the educational program by evaluating course content, student needs, and instructional methods; make recommendations for improvement.
- Assist in the preparation of course syllabi; engage in curriculum development (revising and updating existing courses and programs, creating new courses and programs)
- Evaluate support materials available to students in the library and make recommendations for improving collections in one’s field.
- Maintain Canvas shell for each course being taught, including to keep accurate records of student attendance, grades, etc.
- Make arrangements with the Lead Faculty or Director for covering classes when scheduling an absence.
- Meet all deadlines in submitting grades or other required information on students.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in a related field required.
- Four years related experience of which at least one year of teaching is required, preferably in a community college setting.
Preferred Qualifications
- Master’s degree in related field.
