Job Overview:
OC Environmental Services, LLC is seeking a Lead Environmental Scientist with 6-10 years of experience in environmental restoration projects. Prospective candidates must have experience with site investigation, characterization, and remediation projects regulated by ADEC, USACE, EPA, and/or state agencies. The work schedule will be a combination of office, urban and field work, including locations such as Unalaska and/or other areas of rural Alaska.
Roles and Responsibilities:
- Collaborates with the Project Manager in developing work plans and schedules.
- Collaborates with the site Superintendent to execute approved work plans.
- Serves as the technical lead for environmental scientists in data collection, site investigation, evaluation of data collected, and remediation activities to support project objectives.
- Conducts site reconnaissance, including sampling activities.
- Conduct Phase I and II Environmental Site Assessments.
- Review and prepare technical reports and proposals and recommends revisions or changes in approach, scope, or format.
- Participate in the development of scope of work, budget, and proposals.
- Willingness to perform other duties to ensure success of the project.
- Travel to Unalaska, AK for 2-10 weeks at a time during field season, working approximately 72 hours per week.
Required Skills:
- Alaska Department of Environmental Conservation (ADEC) Qualified environmental Professional.
- Must have experience in environmental fieldwork such as contaminated soil sampling, removal action, monitoring well installation and sampling, and phase I/II site investigations.
- Experience with statistical analysis.
- Knowledge of RCRA and CERCLA regulations.
- Knowledge of Hazardous materials.
- Must be able to work both independently and in a team environment.
- Must have experience working around heavy equipment.
- Must be able to effectively communicate in verbal and written communications.
- Must have experience working in remote field settings.
- Must be proficient with Microsoft office products.
- Must be highly organized.
- Must be self-motivated.
- Must take detailed field notes.
- Must be able to exercise effective time management.
Preferred (but not required):
- Working knowledge of mapping grade GPS devises.
- Knowledge of cleanup and assessment grants such as ANCSA and Brownfields.
- Experience working with Alaska Native Corporations.
- Experience working with EPA, USACE, and other federal agencies.
- Experience conducting Hazardous Building Materials Survey and Assessments.
- Hazardous materials shipping certification, e.g. IATA
- AHERA Building Inspector Initial certification.
- Experience working with or for 8(a) small, disadvantaged businesses.
Education & Certifications:
- BS in a science or engineering field (Environmental Science, Civil Engineering, Environmental Engineering, ect.).
- Must have HAZWOPER 40 Hour certification.
- OSHA-30 Hour (Preferred)
- EM385-1-1 (Preferred)
Position requirements:
- Pre-employment drug & alcohol screening and/or random drug
- Pre-employment criminal background history
- HAZWOPER physical and respirator fit
- Ability to work in remote settings in Alaska for weeks at a time.
- Ability to work in harsh conditions.
Physical Demands:
Work inside and outside. Ability to bend, reach, lift and carry up to 40 lbs. Can work effectively and safely in inclement weather to include high winds, rain, and snow. Most of the field work will occur between April – November. May require travel in helicopter, aircraft, ATVs, and watercraft for short periods of time.
