WGM Group is seeking an Environmental Specialist to join our dynamic engineering, planning and design firm. WGM Group is a comprehensive multi-disciplinary engineering firm including civil planning & design, survey, environmental and natural resource management with office locations in Bozeman, Kalispell, Missoula, and Hamilton. The Environmental Specialist will serve as the primary National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) and Montana Environmental Policy Act (MEPA) expert for WGM Group by maintaining expertise on the preparation of Biological Assessments (BA) and other NEPA/MEPA related issues. This position will also provide environmental and biological support to a variety of disciplines within the company. Our Missoula office is the desired location for this position, but Bozeman and Kalispell will also be considered.
Role & Responsibilities:
As an integral player in our firm, you will:
- Oversee WGM’s NEPA/MEPA administration, including preparation of NEPA documents, resource specific reports and supporting documentation, largely focused on transportation and public grant funded projects.
- Provide training and education to employees on NEPA/MEPA as needed.
- Oversee WGM’s efforts related to Endangered Species Act Section 7 consultation, including preparation of biological assessments.
- Develop, coordinate, and/or assist in building relationships with federal agencies as well as forging new relationships with prospective clients and securing profitable new work.
- Provide broad support for the water resources team such as permitting and design support and the land use planning team including preparation of riparian and weed management plans and environmental assessments.
- Conduct field evaluations for revegetation or biological resources, documenting and compiling data.
- Document project-related activities and assist in drafting of project communications and reports.
Qualifications:
As a valued member of our team, you will have at a minimum:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Natural Resources, Environmental Science, or a related field.
- 7 or more years of job-related experience.
- Extensive experience with NEPA/MEPA administration.
- Experience collecting, recording, and compiling data.
- Ability to conduct biological resource surveys.
- Experience drafting BA’s for Endangered Species Act compliance.
- Familiarity with Federal agency procurement and processes.
- Strong knowledge of revegetation analysis.
- Familiarity with regulatory requirements, permitting processes, and regulatory agencies associated with NEPA/MEPA processes.
- Highly developed organizational skills with attention to the big picture and the details are a necessity in order to meet competing deadlines and demands.
- Computer and software skills including Microsoft Office Suite.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Flexibility/adaptability/resilience in dynamic work environment.
- Interest in a collaboration-focused multi-disciplinary projects for a variety of client types.
- Keen attention to detail and an aptitude for problem-solving with a commitment to quality
