An exciting opportunity has arisen for an Environmental, Health and Safety (EHS) Advisor to join our team on a permanent basis in our EHS department.
The job holder will be required to co-ordinate support and advise on all aspects of health and safety. To establish, manage and monitor standards, processes, communications, training and systems to ensure all responsibilities within Health and Safety are adhered to. Continuously improve health and safety performance and culture.

Key responsibilities
In this role you will be responsible to:
- Provide subject matter expertise to all departments for the development and implementation of health and safety policies and procedures.
- As part of multi discipline teams participate and lead risk assessments as required including task based, process safety, engineering modifications, COSHH and manual handling.
- Conduct root cause investigations for near misses, accidents and incidents ensuring corrective and preventative actions are appropriate.
- Collate accident and incident data and report trends to allow the site to focus on key areas of risk. Manage the use of EHS computer systems.
- Lead and participate in the site health and safety inspections and tours.
- Conduct internal program auditing (e.g. Permit to work system, lock out tack out, confined space entry and contractor safety). Provide appropriate feedback to drive improvement.
- Participate on the emergency response team and contribute to response planning and related training for team members.
- Develop workforce at all levels to an appropriate set of clearly defined EHS competencies, ensuring that identified EHS training needs are delivered to a defined schedule and aligned with regulatory, operational and group requirements.
- To assist in the development and maintenance of the site Process safety management system. through leading and participating in HAZOP, human factor assessments and hieratical task analysis etc.
- To assist in the implementation of a robust change management process to take account of all EHS impacts.
- To carry out any other duties which are within the employee’s skills and abilities whenever reasonably instructed.
Special Factors
- Based in an office environment but with periods of activity in production areas, maintenance workshops and within labs.
- Ability to perform all the necessary physicals tasks required for this position, including working outdoors, climbing ladders, wearing respiratory protective equipment, wearing chemical protective clothing, working in hot environments, etc.
- Travel to other sites may be necessary
- To participate in the duty emergency manager (DEM) rota and to fulfil the responsibility of this role as per the site’s emergency procedure. A separate allowance shall be paid for this function.
What you need for the role
- Recognised safety qualification e.g. NEBOSH Diploma, degree in an appropriate discipline. IOSH membership.
- Significant experience in a Health and safety background in a chemical manufacturing the pharmaceutical industry, or equivalent experience.
- Excellent understanding and maintenance of current EHS legislation.
- Experience in the conduct of incident investigations and application of root cause analysis techniques (i.e., 5 whys etc).
- Experience with safety cultural change initiatives and challenges, with ability to influence behavioural change at all levels of the organisation.
- Experienced and comfortable with training delivery.
- Experience of Human Factors and analysis.
- First aid trained, with advanced first aid techniques (Defib, Oxygen etc.)
- Strong communication skills with the ability to deliver high quality presentations to all levels.
- Good influencing and persuasion skills.
- Able to work collaboratively and build partnerships.

- Excellent planning and organising skills.
- Able to create an environment of continuous improvement.
