Job Title: Environmental Manager (Project Site)
Job Summary:
The Environmental Manager is directly responsible for overseeing and ensuring contractor compliance with all environmental regulations at the project site. This role includes coordinating compliance with federal, state, local, and installation-specific requirements. The Environmental Manager will implement and monitor adherence to environmental programs, handle hazardous waste and hazardous materials, and ensure proper environmental permit management and closeout. This role requires a thorough understanding of relevant environmental regulations and standards, including 40 CFR requirements.
Responsibilities:
Hazardous Waste Program Management:
- Ensure compliance with hazardous waste handling, storage, manifesting, and disposal.
- Oversee waste segregation and ensure storage compatibility requirements are met.
- Inspect and manage Satellite Accumulation Areas (SAAs) to maintain regulatory compliance.
- Coordinate removal of waste containers with authorized personnel.
Environmental Permitting:
- Obtain, maintain, and ensure proper closeout of all required environmental permits for project activities.
- Maintain an environmental records binder, including all permits and documentation of compliance.
Stormwater Compliance:
- Ensure compliance with the Stormwater Management Program requirements as applicable to the project.
Hazardous Materials Management:
- Manage the storage, handling, and reporting of hazardous materials in compliance with regulatory requirements.
- Coordinate remediation activities related to regulated substances (e.g., lead, asbestos, PCBs) as necessary.
Training and Compliance:
- Ensure all personnel handling hazardous materials are adequately trained and certified as per 40 CFR requirements.
- Prepare and maintain employee training records in the environmental records binder.
- Conduct and document classroom and on-the-job training programs for employees to ensure compliance with environmental standards and safety protocols.
Environmental Documentation and Recordkeeping:
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date environmental records, including compliance documentation, waste manifests, and employee training records.
- Submit Environmental Manager qualifications to the Contracting Officer for review and approval.
Qualifications:
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Science, Environmental Engineering, or a related field preferred.
- Experience: Minimum of 5 years’ experience in environmental compliance or management, preferably within construction or industrial project sites.
- Training: Completion of training in 40 CFR requirements or willingness to complete upon hire.
- Skills: Strong knowledge of environmental compliance programs, excellent recordkeeping, and project management skills.
Special Requirements:
- This position requires specific training to manage hazardous waste and environmental records effectively. The Environmental Manager must meet applicable training requirements for waste management, environmental compliance, and documentation.
