Who are we?
First Marine Solutions (FMS) are a service provider to the local and international renewables and oil & gas sectors specialising in the engineering, design, procurement, installation, and maintenance of mooring systems for floating platforms. FMS also specialise in the planning and undertaking of marine activities related to floating platforms such as towage, vessel loadouts, marine assurance, and assisting with location planning and consent. FMS' Renewables team works closely with their clients to understand and solve their challenges around marine activities for offshore renewable energy installations. They also undertake research and development into new products and processes to help accelerate and de-risk future floating offshore wind deployments.
The Role?
Due to continued business growth, we are seeking an Engineering Analyst to join the Renewables team on a permanent basis to contribute to the continued growth of the company through effective project execution, planning and detailed engineering activities.
Ideally the successful candidate will hold knowledge, and preferably experience, in one or more of the following technical fields:
- mooring analysis and design,
- quayside mooring,
- riser or dynamic cable analysis and design,
- hydrodynamic analysis of vessels and/or structures,
- aerodynamics, control systems or load modelling of offshore renewable energy converters,
- transportation, installation, and/or maintenance of offshore renewable energy converters,
or other related subjects. Prior experience with Orcaflex would be advantageous, but not essential, as is the ability to code in Python.
The role will be primarily shore-based in Glasgow, undertaking detailed engineering work, alongside product development and R&D activities in support of Renewable Department objectives. It will also require client interaction, project assessment and tendering support. The successful candidate will be exposed to multiple technical fields related to offshore renewable converter installation and operations. They will be supported to develop the experience to become a go-to expert in one or more chosen specialist fields (e.g. mooring analysis, hydrodynamic analysis, vessel motions, etc).
Occasional offshore visits may be required on an ad-hoc basis and so too may be international travel e.g. to attend client meetings/conferences etc.
What will you do?
Reporting to the Head of Renewables, the successful candidate will contribute to planning and delivery of a broad range of activities. These may include, but will not be limited to the following:
- Carry out detailed engineering analysis such as: mooring analysis, offshore installation analysis, hydrodynamic analysis, quayside mooring analysis and dynamic cable design (with appropriate supervision).
- Contribute to technical problem solving across all aspects of offshore installation of renewable energy converters.
- Attend project meetings and report project progress, liaising with clients and contractors, as necessary.
- Undertake quality assurance of work performed by self and colleagues, ensuring compliance and alignment to all company procedures, industrial standards, and specific client requirements.
- Develop and maintain awareness of operational and commercial risks related to the engineering function, ensuring any risks identified are raised in a timely manner.
- Develop and maintain professional and technical competences through an appropriate combination of self-directed learning, formal training, and on-the-job learning.
- Support other team members to help them meet their own technical, professional, and commercial objectives.
- Provide input and support to tendering and business development activities, including identifying new opportunities to be explored.
- Become familiar with, and abide by, FMS’ working practices, Health and Safety Procedures, Quality Assurance System, as well as other regulatory codes where appropriate.
- Ensure quality control standards are being maintained and implement quality control programmes where necessary.
- Assist with any other duties as and when required.
