DescriptionAs our global footprint continues to spread across the world, we are looking for a Senior Project Engineer to join our Wind Asset Advisory team in North America, and help provide solutions to support wind farm operational success for our customers.
You will be the primary wind turbine blade expert within the North America region of the Renewables Advisory Services business, interfacing internally primarily with colleagues in NA and also supporting the global team in execution of blade-related work.
The role can be remote, or located at one of our offices near Albany, NY or Chicago, IL.
ResponsibilitiesYou will lead the execution and timely completion of root cause analysis projects, blade design reviews, blade damage reviews, and other blade engineering consulting work. You will directly execute most of these projects according to defined methodology and guidelines that you will be in charge of consistently upgrading to the state-of-the-art in addition to developing new tools and methods. You will also perform, coordinate, and manage the execution of blade inspections (external and internal).
Depending on your background and interests, you will also have the opportunity to participate in other due diligence and advisory activities, including operational cost modeling, turbine technology reviews, lightning assessments, operational wind portfolio reviews, and turbine site suitability and associated loads assessments.
You will be involved in various commercial activities directed toward current and prospective customers to provide technical support to the NA Sales team in the generation of leads and opportunities.
Responsibilities
- Manage and execute Renewable Asset Advisory projects (blade inspections, root cause analysis, blade design reviews, blade damage reviews, etc.) including internal and – when required – external coordination of the fulfilment of the project, close follow-up with customers throughout the project from kick-off meeting to invoicing, ensuring the project profitability meets expected targets, ensuring customer satisfaction, and internally promoting and developing improvement areas.
- Collaborate with the Sales Team and participate in online and face-to-face customer meetings to provide technical expertise. Support the preparation of proposals on the technical scope of work when required. Showcase technical topics within white paper, articles, online publication, customer trainings or live events to promote UL’s expertise consistent with the Renewables development strategy, representing UL at trade shows and technical conferences.
- Assist with any other duties as assigned within Renewables advisory activities.
Qualifications- Bachelor of Science degree in a quantitative field (Physical/material Science, Mechanical Engineering, Renewable Energy) from an accredited University or Engineering School;
- Minimum 8 years’ experience in the wind energy sector, especially focused on blade design, inspections, and manufacturing;
- Expertise in composites engineering, manufacturing, and repair;
- Experience with wind turbine and blade loads modeling and engineering software, e.g. FAST, Flex5 Bladed, Ansys, Adams, etc.
- Excellent communication skills in English;
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, etc.);
- Excellent report writing and presentation skills;
- Detail oriented;
- Strong team spirit and proactive mindset; and,
- Ability to work under deadlines in a fast-paced environment.

- Total Rewards: The salary range for this position is $150,000 - $170,000 and is based upon years of experience that is commensurate with the level of the position. All employees at UL Solutions are eligible for annual bonus compensation. The target for this position is 10% of the base salary offered. Employees are eligible for health benefits such as medical, dental and vision; wellness benefits such as mental & financial health; and retirement savings (401K) commensurate with the standard rewards offered in each individual location or country, for the relevant position level. We also provide employees with paid time off including vacation (15 days), holiday including floating holidays (12 days) and sick time off (72 hours).
