Grid Manager
The Grid Manager will take responsibility for our grid connections in Italy, where we are developing a substantial pipeline of onshore wind, utility scale solar & battery energy storage projects. This will include identifying new development opportunities, applying for new connections and managing our existing grid solutions.
You will be expected to use your knowledge of the transmission network and the distribution network in Italy to: plan new grid connections, manage the day-to-day relationships with networks connection teams of different market players, deliver technical reviews of grid offers and continue to support projects with grid knowledge as they move towards completion.
Cubico is currently the leading company in the design of 5 electrical substations nationwide, surpassing Terna. The Grid Manager will take the lead role in technical table and manage relationships with engineering firms supporting Cubico.
The role will be based in Cubico’s Milan Office, reporting to the Head of Development.
Key Responsibilities
Responsibilities and duties will include:
- Developing a strong working relationship with Terna and E-Distribuzione as grid operators.
- Conducting feasibility analysis and identifying connection points regulated by Terna.
- Leading technical discussions with Terna managing five ongoing technical tables with Terna
- Developing scopes of work, engaging and managing external consultants for engineering projects, particularly focusing on stations where Cubico plays a leading role with TSO.
- Assessing the Terna network development plan and renewable energy regulations pertaining to interconnection.
- Managing the elaboration, coordination, and negotiation of primary permits and project connection contracts.
- Overseeing interconnection procedures with the electricity system and negotiating associated contracts.
- Formulating strategies for project grid connections and making relevant proposal for feasibility projects.

Skills, Knowledge and Expertise
The successful candidate will have:
- Advanced understanding of grid phases projects by TSO
- Ability to discuss with network operators to determine optimal solutions for each project and securing formal approvals.
- Prior experience navigating Terna and Enel internal procedures is highly regarded.
- Strong capability to manage commercial negotiations with various stakeholders, building relationships and facilitating internal and external agreements.
- Familiarity with the Italian Grid Code and technical prerequisites for connecting large-scale PV, wind and BESS plants to the National Network.
- Knowledgeable about environmental regulations, permitting processes, and greenfield development dynamics.
- Extensive experience in renewable energy, particularly in solar and onshore wind projects.
