As a Senior Wind Power Plant Electrical Engineer, you will play a pivotal role in designing and optimizing renewable energy projects that advance sustainable development goals. Key Responsibilities:
Technical Leadership:
- Conduct feasibility studies, site assessments, and technical evaluations for wind power projects.
- Lead the design and optimization of wind turbine placement and layouts to maximize energy output and project feasibility.
- Evaluate and interpret wind data, turbine capacity, and site-specific conditions to forecast energy yields.
Design and Coordination:
- Develop specifications and oversee the electrical design of LV/MV systems, including step-up transformers, MV switchgear, and synchronization systems.
- Produce and review guidelines and requirements for subcontractors conducting wind-related field measurements and site investigations.
- Coordinate and review submittals from turbine manufacturers and contractors to ensure project alignment.
- Collaborate with civil and structural engineers to assess turbine and structural loads based on site-specific wind conditions.
- Work with environmental engineers to evaluate and mitigate the environmental impacts of projects, including noise, wildlife, and land use considerations.
Project Oversight:
- Manage subcontractors performing wind-related field measurements, ensuring data accuracy and adherence to project guidelines.
- Support the integration of wind energy systems into the grid, assessing system compatibility and proposing solutions as needed.
- Develop specifications and requirements for SCADA systems to enable effective monitoring and control of wind turbines and wind farms.
Vendor and Stakeholder Management:
- Act as a technical liaison with turbine manufacturers, ensuring adherence to project requirements.
- Coordinate with multidisciplinary teams to deliver integrated, cost-effective solutions for wind power projects.
Economic and Strategic Insight:
- Contribute to strategies for making wind energy projects competitive in the energy market, focusing on cost optimization and performance.
Qualifications
General Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering from an accredited university; Master’s degree preferred.
- Minimum of 10 years of experience in wind power plant engineering with a focus on feasibility studies and technical design.
- Expertise in wind turbine technology, including key components such as blades, nacelles, towers, generators, and transformers.
- Proficiency in wind energy software tools such as HOMER, WindPRO, and WAsP.
- Strong analytical skills to assess wind data, evaluate site feasibility, and optimize turbine layouts.
- Knowledge of economic principles related to renewable energy project development.
Electrical Engineering Focus:
- Ability to design and assess LV/MV electrical systems, including step-up transformers and MV switchgear.
- Experience with grid integration and familiarity with tools like PSS/E or Power Factory.
- Understanding of wind turbine control algorithms, including pitch, yaw, and variable-speed control.
- Proven ability to specify and develop SCADA systems for remote turbine monitoring and control.
Additional Skills:
- Strong project management and organizational skills.
- Excellent communication skills to interact with diverse stakeholders.
- Basic understanding of environmental and structural considerations in wind power projects.
