Senior Project Manager

Summary Description:
The Senior PM is responsible for overall planning and executing operations pertaining to solar installations. This includes project-specific construction management, crew oversight, as well as all project planning to maintain readiness and to promote efficiency. Duties also include Process Improvement, PMO Team Management Training and Mentoring.
Job Duties:
- Safety – promote and foster a Work Safe environment by facilitating Safety Planning on all assigned jobs and assist Direct Reports with Safety Planning on their assigned jobs.
- Crew Scheduling– Work with Construction Manager to maintain a minimum of 3 week “look ahead” schedule at all times, coordinating with General Foremen and Crew Leads on work in progress and crew size needs.
- Apprentices - Coordinate apprentices with the Labor Compliance department, and ensure that the company is hitting the required ratios on ALL projects.
- Project Coordination- Coordinate with all GCs / Clients to ensure critical path construction activities are mobilized in a timely manner and in conjunction with other trades. Ensure that all work on each jobsite is completed in accordance with the overall project scope and schedule.
- Coordinate with other tradesmen/contractors working on the project to ensure that our excluded work (rough in conduit, power, low voltage, etc) gets installed properly - as needed and in conjunction GC/Owner construction management team.
- Subcontracting Negotiate and contract with subcontractors, as needed, for labor compliance and scope of work requirements.
- Procurement – Order all materials for projects in conjunction with General Foreman. Review all orders from main vendors to ensure accuracy.
- Project BudgetandLaborTracking- weekly meetings to review man hours, billing projections, P/L, upcoming manpower needs, WIP, etc.
- Installation Quality – PM must have a definite understanding of what the quality standards should be across the company for their managed scope(s) of work, and rigorously promote them.
- Installation Efficiency - Cost per Watt OR per Sq Ft - Actively engage in month-to-month monitoring of the installation cost per watt (or Sq Ft for solar hot water) as well as the number of man hours per module and actively identify measures to reduce these costs where practical and so long as it does not conflict with safety or installation quality.
- Production Capacity and Readiness –This is generally measured by an ongoing focus on the daily production per crew per day. Acceptable minimums, as well as desired goals should be discussed at recurring operations meetings in consultation with the COO & Construction Director.
- Process Improvement – Initiate and collaborate to improve processes for PMO operations.
- Train and Mentor – Train and Mentor PMs and Construction Admins on Industry Practices and Cal Solar SOPs.
- Manage PM, PC and CAS positions as assigned. Providing guidance, training, management and support to
- Conduct Financial Review Meetings with each Direct Report PM to confirm Budget Accuracy, timely Billing, AR collections, CO Management, Scheduling and Closeout procedures.
Activities to Promote the Above Performance Goals
- Review of Upcoming Jobs – Sr. PM and Superintendent should review jobs at least one week in advance of mobilization to identify any issues pertaining to design, materials, labor, or other resources.
- Meetings – Sr. PM should conduct routine meetings on and off jobsites with General Foremen and/or Foreman and/or entire crew member team to gain full understanding of the Job progress/status, flush out and resolve issues.
- Sr. PM will also attend Project Contract Kickoff, Design Review and Pre-Mobilization meetings to ensure proper preparations and due diligence are in place.
- Sr. PM will actively participate in the Construction L10 Meetings in order to collaborate with General Superintendent, Safety, Procurement and Field Training working on continual Process Improvement initiatives.
- Pre-Contract Support – Support Engineering, Estimating and Sales on typical PM Duties as needed during the Sales and Pre-contract phase.
Required Skills:
- Four year college degree and/or equivalent work experience desirable
- Thorough understanding of Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook)
- Experience managing commercial/industrial solar construction projects
- Strong understanding of grid-tied PV system design
- Basic understanding of solar domestic hot water systems design
- Previous PM experience
- Strong leadership skills – ability to organize, utilize and motivate team members quickly to respond to changes in the construction schedule and scope
- Ability to read, understand, and edit (red-line) electrical, plumbing, and structural plans
- Good at problem solving and implementing site-specific design modifications
- Strong understanding of electrical wiring, theory and the trade
- General understanding of piping systems, pumped fluid circuits, and closed-loop heating systems.
- Strong understanding of the NEC Code and the ability to reference the code as required
- Strong understanding of the Plumbing Code and the ability to reference the code as required
- Knowledge of Universal Building Codes and building materials and techniques
- Experience supervising and managing subcontractors
- Experience working with city/county permitting offices and inspectors
- Ability to work long hours as required in order for the installation crews to work to optimal efficiency on a daily basis
- Must be willing to travel within the state of CA
- Strong Internet and research skills
- Detail oriented and process oriented with the ability to understand key business concepts at a macro level
- Effective communication skills across all levels and departments of the organization
- Be flexible and able to prioritize and complete a variety of simultaneous tasks with a high level of organization
- Understand the organizational structure and processes and use that understanding to make appropriate business decision and process movement
- Possess a positive attitude with strong interpersonal skills
- Ability and willingness to learn and adapt quickly to rapidly evolving business priorities

The starting annual base pay for this role is between USD $135,000 and $145,000. The actual base is dependent upon many factors, such as: location, training, transferable skills, work experience, business needs and market demands. The base pay range is subject to change and may be modified in the future.
